Hey, Bees! I just wanted to update y’all on the engagement ring situation.
He didn’t buy the ring, but there is a happy ending to the story! I apologize in advance for the long post! 🙂
Last month, my boyfriend and I were planning to purchase my engagement ring from The Natural Sapphire Company. We had a particular budget, and we were very pleased with The Natural Sapphire Company’s willingness to work within our budget.
I’d designed the perfect ring with a beautiful 2.5 carat oval yellow sapphire, and it was $10 under budget! I was so excited!
We had plans to make the purchase by the end of the summer to save up some more money; however, I received an email from the NSC letting us know that the sapphire we were interested in was now on sale, and if we made the purchase that week, we would be saving almost $600! I immediately called my boyfriend, and we agreed to make the purchase the next day!
Well, before we were able to finalize the purchase, some family issues got in the way, and within the week, the sapphire was sold to someone else. I was devastated! As a result of everything, we’d decided to push back the engagement another year until the drama subsided.
However, I was talking to my boyfriend the other day, and he surprisingly gave me the go ahead to start engagement ring shopping again! I’m so happy!
Originally, I’d wanted an emerald because we’re both May babies, and my favorite color is green, but I was never able to find a good quality stone within budget, so I started looking at other colored gemstones (e.g. sapphires), but I did A LOT of research this time around, and I came across GemsNY – an emerald wholesaler. Now, I’m sold!
Of course, now, I’m having issues deciding between 2 different emeralds and 2 different settings, and I’m hoping to get some help from the Bees!
I’m definitely into larger stones, so the 2 emeralds I’m interested in are 8.5mm (2.25 carats) and 9.25mm (3 carats). They’re both very similar in price, so the only real difference is size and color. I’m also very much in love with channel set diamonds, so the 2 settings I’m debating on are channel set, but one setting is thicker than the other. The smaller setting has 0.20cttw of diamonds (2.6mm), and the larger setting has 0.34cttw of diamonds (3.85mm).
The emerald on the left is the 2.25 carat emerald. The emerald on the right is the 3 carat emerald.
The setting on the left is the 3.85mm setting. The setting on the right is the 2.6mm setting.
For reference, I wear a size 7 ring.
Please, help me decide!
