Hi @Sassyfras27:  As you are NEW here, let me say a BIG Welcome to “the Hive”

Personally… if I knew my man was going to Propose, I’d want to be more involved in the process.

There is a lot to learn about Diamonds (and a lot of people who sell them take advantage of men who aren’t prepared / haven’t done significant research).

There are the well known 4 Cs in the Diamond World…

CARAT (size) – CUT (Shape & Quality) – COLOUR – and CLARITY

But there are other Cs as well…

CERTIFICATION – CONFLICT FREE / CANADIAN

Not to mentinon… COMFORT & COST

Then you add in the 2 Ss… SETTING and STYLE and there is a lot to be considered when purchasing a Diamond / Diamond Ring

AND altho an Engagement Ring can be a BEAUTIFUL thing (especially the sentiment) there are literally 1000s of Styles…

And just like any other piece of “adornment” this isn’t a one size / one item fits / suits all situation.

When you buy a piece of clothing off the Internet, based on a Photo, sometimes you get it home and try it on and it might not fit… or worse you don’t like it on yourself at all cause it doesn’t suit you

Just like we cannot all buy and enjoy the same pair of jeans… so it is with ERings

What you see in a Photo once you put upon your hand, you might not like at all… in so much as our hands are all different… BIG, small, Long, Wide, short, Stubby etc.

My Best Advice when a couple considers buying an ERing is for the woman to talk about it with the guy (you are planning to marry… you should be freely able to discuss anything) and either she goes off on her own to try on Rings… or the two of them go exploring together.

Cause there is nothing worse than when a guy buys the woman he loves a Diamond ERing… and she LOVES the man but HATES the ring.  THAT is tragic.  And devastating to the man (and his ego)

You can do a WBEE SEARCH to read past heart breaking stories in that regard from BOTH sides… Men & Women.

And the thing with an ERing is… in many instances IT CANNOT BE RETURNED…

AND it is like a car… the minute it leaves the lot it goes down in value significantly (like 25 to 50% down)

So save yourselves some potential heartache… and talk about Getting Engaged… and have a plan that will work for BOTH of you with the least amount of potential fall out / disappointment

Hope this helps,

@Sassyfras27:  this sounds exactly like me! I have looked at so many rings online and I have expressed that I wouldn’t mind a moissanite rings but my SO wants to splurge on a diamond for me 😉

I have shown him rings on pinterest and other online websites that I love (though my preference seems to change all the time, lol) so this has shown me that at the end of the day, I’m just not fussy about a specific style or look! And I trust that he knows me and knows my style well enough that he will at least get something in the same ballpark as my personality!  We definitely won’t be going ring shopping together, but that’s how I want it to be too. I feel like the proposal is his thing and it’s important to the both of us that he chooses the ring on his own and surprises me with a proposal. Every couple is different, the important thing is to find a solution that you’re both comfortable with (which it sounds like you did)

Again- congrats!! Yippee dance away girl!!
