@bestforlast: Fingers crossed its what you think, but keep calm it sucks to get your hopes up and nothing happens. Try to enjoy the night and keep your mind off of it. My bf let it slip that it could happen as early as December I'm thinking round xmas now I'm so on edge about December lol
i was expecting it but that didn't make the proposal any less special and my heart was still pounding the whole time!
omg that's ridiculously funny! I like how guys never notice these things on their own and have to be told! rings and nails! crazy!
I'm crossing my fingers for you!!!
AHH!! My bf has been making nail comments lately too but I didn't put 2-and-2 together until I just read your post.
I'm crossing my fingers for you and I hope you have fantastic news for us after this weekend...
Thank God for WeddingBee, bc although I have always known in the back of my mind to make sure my nails look good when I get the ring, I never actually thought to plan ahead. Who knows when he is going to do it!? I need to get to a salon, pronto! (and maybe consistently for a few months...)
Haha! I told my BF that he must give me a gentle nudge to get my nails done before he asks. I'd be mortified to show off my new ring with ugly nails. But, I don't want to spend the money on getting them done professionally until I have to. I figure from then on I'll have to always have my nails done to match the ring. Ha!
Yay!! That's so exciting! Fingers crossed for you!!! Make sure to keep us posted either way! :)
Hahaha! I knew you guys would understand. I started getting gel nails back in May. On Monday one of them broke and I had just had enough so I told SO that I was going to take them all off and that my nails would be icky for a while. He was so concerned. He offered to take me to the nail salon and then he would go home and make dinner. I explained to him that I don't like being "that girl" who breaks a nail and has to run to the salon. I just filed it down and went ahead with my life. But it was really cute how supportive he was being.
But since then he has asked me "How long will your nails be icky?" "Are you going to get your nails done on Friday?" "What color are you getting?" Definitely making me suspicious.
The best was when he asked me about color I asked him "what color *should* I get?" and knowing that OPI has all of these funny names, he made one up. He's such a cutie.
lol I suppose I'll be the newly engaged girl sitting in the salon the day after he proposes!! I can't seem to keep polish on my nails for long, but I love acrylics. They're so expensive where I live though.
I've been slimming down and toning up too just in case...
Aww, super cute. Definitely sounds like something is on his mind for this weekend!
PS I'm addicted to French pedis and manis! I think they'll look the best with a ring...
I would definitely get your nails done on Friday then! My guy loves when I do my nails I just grow them out and shape them and paint them myself. Summer is softball time so my nails looke like a 10 year olds. Now that sball is over, I'm going to have to go back to grooming and painting them. Fingers crossed that it moves him to see a sparkly underneath those pretty nails!
Secret confession: I have a stand-in ring from a trip we took to Northern Ireland 2 years ago. We were staying in a small B&B and thought it better to fake marriage instead of offending our elderly, Catholic proprietor. I've taken to wearing it around the house when he's not home and doing my nails to see which colors look best with it.
This past weekend I did my own acrylics. I bought a kit at Walmart for $10 and it came with white tips. It was actually fairly simple, and I am not good at all with nails and it was still easy! It took me about an hour from start to finish and I am very pleased! I am going to continue doing it this way because I don't have to sit and wait, or make an appointment, and also I am saving a lot of money.
There are some video's on youtube about how to do your own acrylic nails if anyone is interested.
Hahaha, I started wearing Broadway Nails a few weeks before I thought FI would propose, I just love how rings look with nicely manicured nails!
@bestforlast: Enjoy your nice dinner on Friday! I agree there may be something up, it won't be any less special if you're expecting it.
@MissBuffalo: Yup. I'll be sitting next to you in the nail salon the day after I get engaged too. I absolutely can't keep my nails looking great, or keep polish on them for very long.
Hahaha! I started getting my nails done about 4 weeks ago even though I know I probably won't be getting a ring until October. It's more of a "just in case" thing... lol! I'll probably be getting them painted red with a rounded tip after the engagement though. I've always thought red nails just look classic w/ a yellow gold solitaire, which is what we've decided on.
I hope it happens for you Friday! Best wishes, fingers crossed!
LOL! That's funny. My guy just loves my nails so I can "scratch" him. Nasty man, and I can't even really scratch!
I get the pink and white though. I LOVE keeping my nails up like this. I've been keeping them done, just because I like it, for about 4 months now. I like being donw, even without having to do anything else.
Awe, that's really cute. I bet he has no idea that he's giving everything away, does he?? Good luck on Friday and have fun :o)
@LetsGoPens: Say waaaat? They sell DIY acrylic kits at Walmart? I'm gonna have to look for this. I can't stand the smell in nail salons, especially since I know how toxic it is. :P
Hah, I've been meticulous about doing my nails all the time for the last year and now that I have the ring on my finger I feel like I need to constantly get them professionally done! So cute that he's paying attention! I hope it's what you think!
This thread is the BEST! I actually got my nails done THE DAY BEFORE my fiance proposed. I think we just know it!!! :) I am excited to hear what happens this weekend!!!
Well, you can all stop thinking good engagement thoughts for me...for now, at least.
Long story short, I've been in the process of changing careers for a while. I've been an attorney for 8 years and I want to become a special agent.
After 14 months of working on this, three weeks ago I was told that my dream job was finally coming through. They told me that it was a done deal and that I should notify my supervisor that I'd be transferring divisions (within my Agency). I was on top of the world!
Well, last night I got an email saying that because of a bureaucratic glitch, they actually cannot transfer me and they are "sorry it didn't work out." I've already given my notice. Needless to say, BF and I are very sad and we didn't get much sleep last night. We haven't decided whether to keep our dinner plans for tonight or not.
After he left this morning, I checked and the ring is still there. Don't judge...you would have done it, too ;) And yes, ladies, I know exactly where he put the stinkin' ring 7 months ago. So, if we was planning to do it tonight, he probably changed his mind given our current state.
As for the job, it will all work out okay. I really believe that most things happen for a reason and that everything will work out one way or another.
The good news is that now whatever he does, whenever he does it, will be a surprise. I'm still going to get my nails done during my lunch break.
Thanks for all of your support.
Oh gosh that's sucky news! I'm glad you are still managing to keep a positive attitude and you seem to manage to still find the silver lining in all those dark clouds. (sorry for all the cliches haha)
Oh no, that sucks! I hope the job situation comes through soon. In the meantime, hopefully the proposal will come as a happy surprise in the midst of the job stress, once the shock of last night's bad news has worn off. My job sucks these days too, and looking forward to a proposal gives me something happy to focus on/obsess over.

A long time ago I mentioned to SO how a friend of mine got engaged and how someone was chiding her for her nails being a mess when she was showing off her ring. So, he is aware that there is an issue with nails and rings...
This week he has inquired about my nails THREE times. Asking me if I am getting my nails done Friday (as I have done biweekly for the past 4 months or so), asking me what color I am going to get. Too funny! I'm pretty sure he is planning something for Friday evening. We have dinner reservations (that I made) at a really nice restaurant for which we have a gift certificate.
I'm really excited. I'm a little bummed that I'm expecting it, but at this point I just want him to ask already. We'll see....
