Mine is my uncle, so "friend/acquantance", but he is a pastor also so "religious", although we're not having a religious ceremony so....all of the above?
We're having a rabbi, but we have no prior connection with him. Basically found him online :)
Congrats on your friend agreeing! I think that's so cool to have someone that knows you both.
My step-sister had a friend officiate their 50s themed greaser wedding. It was adorable! He wrote all the vows and made it car themed. If I wasn't getting married in the Catholic Church, I would totally have a friend say the wedding rather than hire a non-denominational officiant. I love the idea of really personalizing the ceremony with friends and family involvement.
One of my FIs good friends just got ordained yesterday!! Woo hoo!
I got really, REALLY excited after we confirmed our officiant. There's something about that planning step that made it feel 'official' to me!
We wanted a pastor and the one we chose is a good friend - so, it's the best of both worlds for us!
It will be a senior pastor from the church in which we are getting married.
We had a justice of the peace. I poposed having someone closer to us perform the ceremony, but DH just wanted it done and over - he's so sentimental like that :)
when we were planning a big wedding we were going to have FI's uncle, who is a pastor do the wedding, now we'll more than likely be going the JOP route so it'll be a clergy from "downtown"...lol
Aww, sweet! I'm not engaged, but I DEFINITELY want my best friend to officiate. Hopefully, he would say yes.
I wasn't sure how to vote. Neither of us are religious but our friends and families are (mine much more so than his) but we chose to have a very close friend of mine who is a minister, even though ours will be the first wedding she has performed.
A pastor I've had since I was nine is actually a dear family friend and I admire and respect him a lot, although my fiance has never met him, he was fine with that.
So he is a pastor, but he's someone very special in my life.
Ours is extra special because he is the pastor at the church we went to in college, and he is also our very good friend!
We're hoping a friend and his wife (who is an ordained minister) will do the ceremony together. Still waiting to see if they are availabile. If not, we'll probably just use the minister in the church we're marrying.

FI asked our family friend to be our officiant. And he said YES!! This was a big item on our to-do list, so I'm so happy that it's done. How many of you all are having a friend as your officiant??
(Btw, we're already legally married, so our friend doesn't have to get ordained for the day or anything.)
