As some of you know, I was worried that since I had seen the ring and knew that the proposal was coming that I wouldn’t be surprised enough. Boy was I wrong! 🙂
For some reason I had sort of figured that my love would propose on our last night of vacation. I am a perpetual planner, but I left that night open for whatever he had in mind. I had pictured a romantic dinner, walk on the beach, etc. But he wasn’t feeling well at all, as he had gotten sick about halfway through our trip, so we had a casual dinner in the room followed by a nice walk on the beach. But the night still came and went, and I was actually starting to be a little sad that he hadn’t asked yet. I felt silly and a bit selfish for thinking that way, lol. I resigned myself to the fact that he wasn’t going to do it on vacation, because that would be too obvious; he was going to make me wait a bit longer. Perhaps he had something planned for next week? So the morning came, we packed our things, packed the car, and went for one last walk on the beach. It was our first extended vacation together in our five year relationship, and it was so wonderful that I was so sad to leave.
We dipped our toes in the water one last time, wrote our names in the sand, and started to walk back. I reluctantly turned to step up on the boardwalk, when he took my hand, turned me around, and got down on one knee! He asked me to marry him, and after a moment of silence holding back tears and holding him as tight as I could, of course I said yes! His timing was perfect and an absolute surprise. I’ve been glowing ever since!
