@PurpleUnicorn: Aw, thank you so much! It was just a shock to hear him say that, I couldn't believe it. But I agree with you, I'm sure there won't be any regrets!
I just came back from vacation in Yosemite - so amazing!
God, event planning is a thankless job isn't it? How annoying! Anyway, everyone has doubts, I'm sure he'll be super happy with it when it's done.

But he only said it once, doesn't mean it anymore, and is becoming more excited about our wedding.
In the beginning while we were looking for venues, I wanted to have our wedding locally in his town where there are lots of wineries. But we are a bit picky and the places we liked the most had a minimum that was $5K over our budget. My FI refused to accommodate. Okay, that's fine. Let's keep looking. Except I was the one doing most of the work: calling venues, calling caterers, adding up numbers, etc. The only thing he did was drive me places, and when we get there, he'll grunt and shift around on his feet looking like he rather be elsewhere, because the only thing that was on his mind was the cost.
FI and I are rock climbers, him more than me, and we often go to Yosemite. On a whim, I contacted the people in charge of weddings/events and asked for price quotes. Turns out their venue rentals were a bit more affordable than the wineries we looked at. The only thing that made it pricey was the food and drinks. But if we kept a small guest list, we could afford it! We booked our venue and planning has commenced. Yay!
Well, last Friday we went to a wedding of FI's coworker (FI hasn't been to many weddings). The wedding was at a winery that was originally on top of my list, and it was beautiful! It was held in a barrel room, and the food, wine, and cake were great. Because a lot of FI's colleagues were there, he had a grand ole time yakking the night away with them.
At the end of the night while walking to the car, we were talking about how fun the party was. Then he says, "I kind of regret not having a wedding in [his town]." I turn to him, "WHAAAT??!!" He had so much fun that now he sees how easier it would be for guests to go to a local wedding. I had to scold him at how much work I did, and that he essentially rejected all of the choices, mainly because the only thing he thought about was money! ARGHH! I couldn't believe it. Really, if I had a choice between Yosemite and the winery, I would have chosen the winery just for the convenience for our guests.
But Yosemite still kicks ass. FI is now actually excited about the wedding and he wants to invite more people from his side. At first our guest list was mostly my people, and I'm happy he wants to invite more of his. I hope his enthusiasm will last!
