yes, it is true that ribbon veils will cut you in half in pictures. this is even bigger problem is you are shorter (i'd say under 5'7) or is you are a plus size bride.
if neither applies to you, then grab a ribbon veil if thats what you really want. otherwise you can go with a plain cut edge, or a pencil trim edge.
regarding the other part of your question, i think that boils down to what you wanted to do. if you want a tiara and a veil then wear them both! don't base your decision on others. do what is true to you and your style!
I wore a tiara and a veil. I liked both so I wore both. I have seen many others do it as well, so I'm pretty sure its "OK".
Thanks for your advice!
Quick question.. what's the difference between a ribbon and pencil trim?
Will a pencil trim not cut you in half in pictures? Thanks in advance!
Here's a pretty good resource:

I used these guys for both my veil and tiera (I'm doing both) and they were absolutely wonderful, fast and the cheapest I found on the web. The quality of the products was great and it's nice that you can buy a couple of tiaras and then return the ones you don't want at no charge. I got a couple, thinking I would get product A and when it came, product B was a much better fit to my ensamble. I also went with a (I think) 54" single-layer diamond white shimmer veil. I have detailing on the back of my dress and it doesn't hide that at all.
Good luck!
Here is another great site:

I purchased my veil from them and I love it. They are very customizable, only problem is because they are custom you cannot return them. But it was great for me because I got exactly what I wanted, and I couldn't find another just like it anywhere!
Look on the left of the first page of that site, and you will see links to all kinds of help pages.
that link probably describes the difference bw the pencil edge and the ribbon edge. the pencil edge is very small....it simply "finishes" the raw edge of the veils. its not that much of a detail really. some brides prefer it to the look of the raw edge (no trim) veil.
Yes and no about the ribbon edge,, unless it is a contrasting colour I have never found it shortened anyone, wear the tiara and the veil!
Thanks everyone for your advice! I decided to go with the tiara and veil (with ribbon edge)!!!

Hi ladies, I completely left this up to the last minute. I have about two weeks left. The hairstyle will be a soft updo.. so what do you think? Tiara and veil? Just tiara? Just veil?
At first, I thought I'd do a tiara and veil, but now when I'm looking at everyone's pictures, I see that most people only wear a veil. I also recently read that a veil with a ribbon edge will "cut" your body in the middle and might make you look shorter. Is this true? If so, any suggestions?
