I'm totally in. I dont have a scale readily available to me (and it's not all about a number on a scale!) but I'd love some healthy eating tips, tricks, and advice.
With my history, I'm definitely not too fond of scales either. I use other measures to keep track. A really great measure with respect to health is your waist size.
Analysis in The Journal of Clinical Epidemiology showed that body mass index is the ”poorest” indicator of cardiovascular health, and that waist size is a much better way to determine, for both sexes, who is at a higher risk for hypertension, diabetes and elevated cholesterol. Studies suggest that health risks begin to increase when a woman’s waist reaches 31.5 inches, and her risk jumps substantially once her waist expands to 35 inches or more.
When I first started doing this, I didn't really want to know where I was at in inches. I just wanted to know I was making progress... so I started my measurements in centimeters, which seemed like just an arbitrary number to me (though probably not so for the women in Europe!)
Just pick a measure to track your progress, but it definitely doesn't have to be weight. It can even be how your clothes fit or how long you exercise.
I'm totally in. I just had my body fat tested, and it's much higher than normal considering I've been working out regularly for some time! I've only recently changed my diet, and that's made the hugest difference.
A regular check-in would be great to keep us all motivated!
Doctorgirl, that's a great tip. I'm terrified to look at a scale because I know I've gained weight in the last few months and I don't even want to know what the number is. But I do want a way to track my progress. I might try centimeters also and clothes fitting is another great way to see how far you've come!
Well if that's the case then I'm the healthiest person ever! ha TOTALLY joking! I am just a big pear shaped body -- I have always had a tiny waist, I do now even though I know I'm about 10-15 pounds overweight.
But with that said, I totally agree that there are other ways to measure, I'm definitely going with the way my clothes fit. Right now I am a 10-12 and I'd really like to be a 10 and maybe even a random-clothes-that-run-big size 8. :)
I'm definitely interested. I really started watching my food intake about a week and a half ago. Nothing crazy just making smarter choices. I have already noticed a difference in the way my clothes are fitting and it motivates me to keep it up. I think it would be great to keep up the momentum! I'm in!
I'm thinking we'll do a "Wednesday weigh-in", which isn't really to mean that we have to provide weights... but just detail where we're at with respect to our goal. This Wednesday, maybe we'll start with establishing what are goals are and where we're at right now.
I am using SparkPeople right now and am having great results. I think I will stick with my program.
Doctorgirl -- maybe you could start a thread every wendesday with like WWI (wednesday weigh in) - and then the date so people can easily find the archives.
I was actually going to try and make a spreadsheet to track our progress after everyone posts on the weekly thread (which I think is a great idea HR!). Niki mentioned SparkPeople, and I think that's great. I use Fit Day, and it's really fun to look at the graph of your progress (and really sad when you regress!)
This is going to be fun!
Well I am new to this website, but this looks great. I could really use other brides to help keep me accountable! Keep it up ladies!!!
Absolutely! I wrote a post about how I am the junk food queen of the world. Its been 2 weeks (I think) since the post, and I'm already falling off of my healthy eating kick. I need help to keep me motivated!!
yipes, that scared me...my waist is bigger than that, but I am also 5'10", so I hope I'm OK I halfheartedly use sparkpeople, too...on there, they group you by how much you want to lose total, as you probably have different issues/focus depending on total loss

Beekeeper
Healthy eating and fitness have been the two foremost topics on my mind in recent months (and probably for many of you). I think we all want to look and feel our best for our wedding day. This is a particularly important subject for me, as I've struggled with some disordered thinking around food and weight in the past.
I know that several motivated bees have set up fitness and weight loss plans. I'd like for those of us who prefer to be accountable to other to have a place to post our successes and struggles.
Are there others who would be willing to join a thread where we can hold ourselves accountable?
I'm envisioning a place where we post our goals (whatever they may be), and then report out once weekly on our steps toward our goals, and what things have been working, what things haven't been working, etc.
What do you think?
