    A little info...

    http://www.aisledash.com/2011/03/02/costco-to-sell-budget-wedding-dresses-by-designer-kirstie-kelly/

    Just thought this was interesting!

    Thoughts??

    Anyone think they might check it out? If you do, let us know how it goes!

    (Also on another note ( a weirder note) did you guys realize Wal-Mart sells caskets online? They started that last year.)

    This just proves stores like Costco and Walmart are taking over the world.

    @Hobokenbride2012: The Wal-Mart/casket thing totally freaks me out. Something is just wrong with this picture when there is a store where I can buy a gallon of milk and my final resting place for all eternity.

    I want a job there being a wedding planner, lol.  You can start in the deli and do your food testing, off to the bakery for your cake testing, in the freezer sections are the appetizers for cocktail hour, back to office supplies for the stationary, next to the floral section for your bouquet, off to glasswares for the vases, next to men ware for linen suits.  Finally you get to pick your dress out.  Now that is one stop shopping and a whole new meaning to wedding in a box.

    @tksjewelry: LOL! Danggggg. That's deep ;)

    Then you can hop over to Wal-Mart and pick out a casket while you buy your milk and bread.

    @tksjewelry: LOL!!! Makes me think of Wall-E's "Buy in large"   It's coming true, and now you can get your wedding dress to get married as well.   All you need is stores like Costco and Walmart.

    Craziness.

    @tksjewelry: Hey now, we actually got our wedding cake from Costco and it was delicious! $120 for 150 BIG slices, I think, and it was gone by the end of the night (only 130 guests).

    The small cake my mom paid almost as much for that we cut? Nasssssssssssssssty.

    @daydreamwanderer:  I love their cakes!  Not quite as good as mine.  I got all my moms recipes a few years ago and she used to do all the big wedding cakes in town.  Her buttercream frosting is to DIE for.

    This reminds me of when ASDA (a supermarket chain in the UK) sold wedding outfits. They weren't that bad though, for the price. £60 for a wedding dress is as cheap as it gets I think!

    Some pictures of the two ASDA £60 dresses:

    Here ya go, it's her "Signature" line and apparently her gowns generally cost between $2,000 and $7,000 - at least that's what the NYT said.

    Ah, here's the video about the ASDA outfits :) Seems like the Costco ones won't be as "budget" as these!!

    Whoops I meant the LA Times.  Here's the article and the dresses range from $699 - $1399 but that link I posted above shows the actual 6 gowns and their prices.

    @daydreamwanderer: we are thinking about getting our cupcake-cake from Costco or Kroger! We are going to have a "cake Off" LOL. But seriously save money and yummy!! I havent been that impressed with a lot of the bakeries in our area. mmmm ok now all I can think about is cake.

    BTW is there even a dressing room at CostCo??How would you try it on?

    Usually people go to Costco for the good prices.  The gowns are far from cheap - they're $600-$1300 so the prices will not draw people in.  So I somehow don't see this working out.

    Hobokenbride2012 I completely agree - $600-$1300 is not exactly "cheap", people who have that money surely would rather buy something else? Unless the dresses are amazing and have something to offer that other designer dresses don't, I don't see it working either. Unless they are just targeting Kirstie Kelly fans on a budget. But how many are there?? (I never even heard of her before today!) They should have gone down the really cheap route IMO.

    @froydis: Exactly their targeted consumer is very limited.  If you have that kind of money for a dress most women would rather go to a real bridal salon, not Costco. Now if they sold dresses for under $500 I could see women going there.

    @Mrs.tobe: LOL.

    I'm not sure what to think...I would worry about the service and finding someone to do the alterations more than anything else. Also, the dresses are nice, but $600 isn't really a "bargain". My dress was less than that at David's Bridal. Coming from Costco, I would expect $200-$500 range (or even less).

    And even though I know that big stores allow general retail costs to be affordable for people, which is great, I really struggle with supporting them since they don't support the local economy as much as local stores - but that's another issue, really.

    I wonder if you could get married there too? One stop shop for EVERYTHING.

    The fact that they are going to have dresses available to try on insizes 2-24 will be great for plus size brides! They can go to the Costco where these dresses are available, and see what they will really  look like in different styles.  Whether or not they buy the dress at Costco, they will have had an opportunity to try on a dress that can be zipped up and viewed as it will actually look like on their wedding day.

    Something most brides don't know: the current Disney Bridal gown designer wasn't the first one. Starting in 2008 Kirstie Kelly had a Disney Brides by Kirstie Kelly division. They were elaborate expensive gowns.  Also, their production time took FOREVER! 7 months was typical for a Disney at that point.  Kirstie Kelly isn't a new designer but her company has always had some problems.  I worked at a bridal salon for just over 2 years and the Disney's that she did were beautiful, but more hassle than anything else that we sold.
