Are you talking about Clifton Forge, or is there a town just called Clifton?
I looked at it for a reception venue. It's got a country style with old wood floors, quilts, fireplaces, etc. But I think most larger receptions take place in a tent off the back of the restaurant. The tent was adequate, but nothing spectacular in terms of ambiance (i.e., I think it may have had an astroturf floor). But Clifton is a really cute town, and there's even an old train car right outside the restaurant--good for a photo op!
I've never been to the restaurant, but Clifton just had the grand opening for their winery Paradise Springs and they will be doing weddings.
Heart in Hand is not far from my parents. It's a cute venue, although a bit small. I looked at it as a possibility for my reception and although the cost is very very fair, the venue adorable, the food good, parking and space are limited. Plus the drive into Old Town Clifton is a bit far from hotels and on a windy road. With us having so many people coming in from out of town, travel and space were the priority.
But really very charming!
We decided to go w/ the Waterford @ Fair Oaks :) A little worried about booking a place w/out seeing it first, but I didn't want to be left with nothing! Especially since I won't be back in the states for another 3 weeks! (I was supposed to come back this week...)
Anywho, just glad we booked a place. Woo!

Does anyone know anything about The Heart in Hand restaurant in Clifton VA? My planner suggested it for a reception site, but their website doesn't give many good pictures. She says it's nice and there's a really nice old church to get married at across the street (so easy for guests) and it's in an historic area so there are good photo ops. Any info would be appreciated!
