Yep, another case of dress regret. I have VW351062 from the White by Vera Wang line, which I kind of felt rushed and pressured into getting. Its beautiful and does fit my ceremony venue, but I went to David's Bridal four times and tried on this dress three times before I said yes (over the course of one year). Mom wasn't even ecstatic, she just said "it looks better than the other ones so get it". My consultant was pushing for it too (probably because it was near closing time) so I just went for it.
I've been thinking about another dress I liked though--VW351023. I loved the illusion piece, the shape was great, it was just the fabric that I didn't like since it was satin and didn't fit my outdoor ceremony. Then I saw Vera Wang's "Esther", which has chantilly lace floating on and under tulle layers. With the greatness that is Jasmine's Bridal, I could get a replica dress for $750, with all the alterations that I would need.
So now here's the question.. Do you think this dress would fit my venues? I'm getting married at an Italian mansion/villa turned art museum with a great sweeping garden overlooking the lake, and the reception is at a very clean and modern restaurant. So I have both a vintage and modern feel, which throws me off.. Also, the wedding is on a Sunday and will be a morning ceremony.
What do you think? (pictures in next post) Sorry for the rambling, by the way. There's noone to talk to about this sort of stuff around home since I'm doing most of the planning by myself.
Here's VW351062, the dress I have sitting in my closet..

Here is VW's "Esther"

Here's the ceremony site. If we have good weather, we'll be married at the top of those stairs.

And here's the restaurant, which we will be barely decorating:

I adore your first dress. It is simply stunning. I say stick with your first dress!
Ooo I'm a sucker for chantilly lace. Both dresses are beautiful, and you look gorgeous in your picture. I think both dresses fit your venue, and really it's a matter of which one you really want. Either way, you will look soooo gorgeous in the photos!
Either dress would be fine. Have you considered getting a lace blouse/overlay for the dress you have? I can't make out the detailling on your dress very well, but if it's not too blingy you could make it work.
The first dress! I wonder if it would look even better though if they could turn it into a sweetheart neckline.
@ekizuna: I just love your first dress. It's actually the only VW White that I love! I do think the second one would fit your venue just fine too, but it's hard for me to advise you to get it when your first dress is so beautiful.
Suggestion: could you have Jasmine's make you a sheer top like the second one, but without the lace? That way you get a little bit of the feel of the second dress but you still use your first one.
Thanks everyone. I do like the dress I have now, the fit is great, but it just doesn't.. wow me? The beading on the bodice is done in a fern pattern, so I don't want to cover it up with a lace overlay.. But I do want something that covers my shoulders and I haven't found anything that I like so far. Even etsy has failed me!
I tried on my dress again today to try and convince myself that its the one. I did play with the neckline, but I find that the straight-cut actually works better for me! If I get the custom replica, I would change the necklace as well.
Also, I feel like I should throw this in.. My current dress still needs alterations, which include shortening the hem, shortening the train, and then a bustle if I even decide to keep the train.. therefore adding another $200 because of all the layers. So overall it would be around $1300 versus the custom $750..
@ekizuna: hands down the first one. It's amazing-and it fits you so well!
Hmmm... I saw Vera Wang's "Esther" in person before. The style seems easy to be replicated, but its laces are amazing. They're the most beautiful laces I've ever seen in my life. So I think you'll probably be disappointed if you get a replica. If you're concerned about the budget, have you thought about getting a pre-owned dress?
@ekizuna: i love your first dress i dont care for the second one ; )
@MissFireFlower: Thanks.. I actually had problems with the fit actually, because the one I ordered was oddly too big for me, so I switched for the sample dress! Weird, since I ordered the same size right?
@Ringer101: Jasmine's Bridal does stock chantilly lace actually and I was going to upgrade for their designer fabric. Since there are tulle overlays as well, some of the details will be hidden anyways. I would love a pre-owned dress, but Esther still starts at $4000 and would still need alterations.
@ekizuna: It sounds like you already made your mind... Good luck!!
Absolutely stick with your first dress! It's beautiful, especially ON you!
First dress hands down! It's stunning
I really love the first dress! Nordstrom has some shoulder coverups in their wedding dept that might work for the ceremony
First dress for sure!!
I've tried on a similar dress to the second one and found it hard to move around in (ie. not great for dancing).
Just as impressed with the location too! GORGEOUS!!
Good luck with all the wedding planning :)
I think the first one looks amazing on you but if you don't love it then I think you should keep looking. And before you go about making a replica of the second, try to go somewhere to try it on. I've found that dresses always look different in the pictures and on the models than they do on you. Good luck!
I say stay with the first one. If anything, maybe find someone that can add something else to it to make it better for you. But honestly, I think it's really pretty!
The first dress is absolutely stunning, it fits you perfectly! Don't even think about changing!
@ekizuna: I like your first dress a lot better. In regards to getting something to cover your shoulders that matches your dress, have you thought of going to Jasmine's for that? I bet they could come up with something that matches the beading on your dress.
Honestly they don't look very different to me. If you added a lace top to your first dress maybe that would help you like it more?
If you haven't had alterations on the first dress, why don't you sell it and use the money toward the dress you really want? You would take a loss but not as bad if it's unaltered, brand new with tags still on it.
Good luck and let us know what you decide!
in reading through these, I think you have your answer :) But I'll say I love the first dress, on you. I thin it really compliments your figure and with the 2nd dress, that might be a little 'hidden' if you know what I mean. So many brides would love to haev your figure :) also, I dont think that pic is doing it justice, once you add some jewelry and a beautiful veil, I think you will love it even more, try it on with some extras like this and in good lighting and see if it makes you feel like any better. I love your venue, it's beautiful. I think either dress goes with the venue and both dresses are stunning, but since you already have the 1st one, I say keep it. Having a dress made like the replica might be a gamble too-so that may be something to consider. It seems like some of the replicas dont always flow in the same way when there's lace and organza or layers, just in watching the posts. Good luck!
I actually think the second dress would drown you. You seem like a very petite girl, and your tiny frame would disappear in all the detail of the second dress.
I LOVE THE FIRST DRESS SO MUCH!! Don't regret it its amazing for any venue. It looks fantastic on you!
The dress you have is absolutely beautiful and fits perfectly with your venue!
Stick with your first dress and do a search for an illusion top to be added if you like that part.
You aren't going to make a wrong decision here... Both dresses are great. I agree with PP's. Add an illusion top and/or a bow to your existing dress. Maybe that will ignite some excitement about it!
Why do you think the VW White dress doesn't fit the venue? It's gardens, and you have lovely fern embroidery on the bodice. You can even play it off a bit in decorations - either your bouquet or flower arrangements could have some white flowers and ferns for example (which are also cheap to boot).
I like the illusion piece on the second dress, but I don't see how it's more fitting for the venue - what is your thinking on this?
you could also have a custom tulle illusion piece w/o lace on your current dress - just throwing it out there. Or, a short lace dress from jasmine's for the reception... Just ideas:)
