I am getting married at the Petroleum Club downtown in December which is very convenient for us because we live just outside of downtown too. It's going to be here before I know it!
Hello! I live in Houston, but I'm getting married in Galveston (where I grew up). It'll end up being a "destination" wedding for most of our guests, so that'll be fun!
I'm getting married at St. Laurence in Sugar Land, the church I grew up in, but it's under major construction right now, I'm sure it will be beautiful by the time my weddding rolls around. The reception will be at either George Ranch or Sweetwater Country Club. I'm pulling for George Ranch though.
VegasBride, do you know of any really great florists in Sugar Land? I'm trying to stick with vendors outside of downtown, but I haven't come across any. By the way is there any chance your name is Karen Laren or Farren? Cuz that would be pretty cool. haha
My mom has the name of someone local for flowers. I can't remember it right now. When she gets back in town next week I'll find out. There is a couple, the wife is a florist and the husband is a photographer. She also has a name of a videographer she has used for business and loves.
George Ranch is fun...I haven't been there since I was a kid. I am at SWCC a couple times a month for meetings. They seem to have a lot of turnover in catering employees, but then again Sugar Creek Country Club also seems to have that problem.
Hi Ladies! I live in Houston (near the Galleria) but am getting married in The Woodlands, where my fiance and parents live. So if any of you are on the north side, let me know if I can help! : )
Hello All! I live inside the loop in Houston and I just got married last month in Galveston. It's been difficult to let go of all the wedding planning!! If I can help anyone with any vendor recs etc. please let me know!
hi girls! i was a houston bride but i recently moved to boston. most all my vendors were houston asian vendors so if you have any questions i'll be happy to recommend (or not recommend them) =)
Pelikila, please keep me updated about Briscoe! That's still in the back of my mind for reception options. More personality than the country club, and more inclusive than George Ranch. The pictures I've seen of it are great!
ErinSea, the online pictures of Brisoce Manor are true to the look whether it's decorated for an event or not. That's something that totally sold me on the place. My mom was even impressed how true to real life the pictures are.
Both Jen (manager) and Rachel (BTB cater) are easy to work with and fairly go with the flow. All of my vendors have worked there before and have nothing but great things to say about the location and the people so I'm really excited to have gotten it. I'd be happy to send you the pricing structure and rental agreement if you are interested.
I live in Houston and am getting married in New Orleans, LA. However, most of my vendors are here in Texas and I'm paying a pretty petty to send them over to New Orleans (esp during MARDI GRAS!! EEKS!). If there is anyone who is thinking of DIY invitations, table tents, menus, etc, please let me know!
Erin, we are photographing a wedding at St. Laurence right after the construction is done! Our bride decided to use their small chapel, though. She's having her reception at Safari Texas Ranch. We've found that it's a pretty popular place (we have 3 couples doing their reception there this year!), although a bit crowded. And I've heard really good things about Briscoe Manor, but have yet to check it out myself.
Anyway, we had our wedding ceremony at George Ranch and I really liked it. We had a few snags (which I can share in more detail upon request) but overall it was a really nice place to have a wedding. The coordinator Kristi really loves what she does. If you want to see photos of George Ranch all decked out for a wedding, let me know and I'll send to you our proofing site. Also, they don't advertise this, but they have a gorgeous treehouse nestled in a giant oak tree that you can get married in.
Our reception was at St. Arnold's Brewery in Houston. This was probably my favorite aspect of the wedding. Grand ballroom it is not, but it looks great at night, was incredibly fun, and they'll give you all the beer you can drink, included in the total bill, at a *really* reasonable price. And they are just plain nice people. It was perfect for beer geeks like us.
I used a florist located in SW Houston-Wendy at FJ Florist. She is hands down the nicest vendor we had! You walk into her shop, and you get a hug. When I stopped by to check out the trial run of our centerpieces, she sent it home with me. She even gave us a beautiful arrangement for our reception as a personal gift. She delivered both to George Ranch and St. Arnold (which are far from each other!) with no problem, and her prices were less than another florist I checked out. Also, she just knew what the hell she was doing. I highly recommend her, in case you haven't figured that out by now.
Anyway, I'm happy to provide advice/reflections for anyone, as well as more vendor recommendations. Of course, I happen to know a great photographer, so you know what my answer is for that.
Now I know I like you saltyveruca! I actually came across your website when browsing the area for photographers. and had written your name down in my notebook. I'm still a very long way off from making any set in stone decisions but I will be sure to keep up with your blog. I'd love to see those pictures from St. Laurence and George Ranch. I was just at St. Arnold's Brewery a few weeks ago just for their Saturday tour. I want to have my rehearsal dinner there so bad, but I don't think I would want to make the drive from the ceremony to the reception. You're right it is a pretty long way. Are you going to have a break in between?
I guess I'm a little late, but I just found Wedding Bee!
I'm a Houston bride - getting married at Agave Road in Katy (yes, I've heard all the stories, but they are good people and I absolutely fell in love with it and Had To Have It!). Have a planner (Lauren at Master Plan Events), bought my dress (Brickhouse Bridal) a few weeks ago, just hired my florist (Stems by Holly - love her!), and am negotiating with my photog. I found Wedding Bee last week when looking for invites (Oh, how obsessed I am with the invites....) :)
Hi girls! I'm a recently married chick and now my sister, who lives in Galveston, is getting married in H-Town and I'm helping her plan her wedding. As far as a florist rec, we are super excited about the one she chose: Pod Flower Studio (she's in the Woodlands- not sure if that's close to Sugarland at all). Here's some info about her from my blog: http://www.videobrideblog.com/2008/08/nic-cam-florist.html
It's fun to "meet" locals because I'm an avid Weddingbee reader (for about two years now) but the blgogers are always ladies from other parts of the country. Love this blog and I hope I can be helpful to anyone!
Are there anymore of you out there? Lets get to talking! I'm living in San Marcos now, but will be getting married in Sugar Land. How about you?
