My advice for you is see if you can get your venue and vendors for the price of 2012. They all like to raise their prices each and every year. I was able to get my photographer at his 2011 rate even though my wedding is not until 2012.
@sexxysheddy: Thank you very much for the advice! We have a couple of venues we're looking at. One of which is only $10,005 and that includes wine and beer all night and chair covers. I like it, but it's in the mountains and is very rustic, woodsy. And my wedding theme is classic black and white, so I'm just not sure if it will fit in there. But maybe..
@nberg89: you have some time but I would say by like June-July of 2012 start narrowing it down to the place and vendors you would want to use. The one place I had like went up by $15PP which does not seem allot but when you times that by 150 it gets to be pricey. I got engaged in August of this year and started planning in September and place were alerady booked for all of 2012. I do not want to stress you out but just make sure you have a game plan and stick to it.
Welcome to the Hive!
I used all the wedding planning tools on Martha Stewart weddings.com, it has a great timeline checklist that you can customize, a guest tracker (which is AWESOME), budget tracker, and even a great seating chart maker. It was super helpful. It even allows you to decide which guests are a list or b list, just a ton of feature that I highly recommend it.
@sexxysheddy: You're definitely right. Of course I have my DJ and photographer already (my fiance is a DJ, so his boss is doing our wedding and I do photography so my mentor is doing the wedding). But venue is like an asap its the only way to really seal the date of the wedding in. After we get that settled, we have time to do the rest a little more slowly.
@tksjewelry: I will def have to chack that out! THANK YOU!
@nberg89: Here is a link to a thread about getting a free wedding planning book. I thought it might be helpful to you.

I got engaged on Thanksgiving 2011, and I am beyond excited. We're having a longer engagement (9/6/13 is our wedding date) but man oh man trying to plan things, and make lists of what I need to do and when is rough.
Any and all suggestions, help, would be appreciated!
