Hi y'all! I'm not quite a bride-to-be--yet, but have already started planning my wedding! I currently live in the Boston area, so I've joined that discussion board, but I plan on relocating to Charleston, SC, next spring and getting married in either Asheville, NC, or the Outer Banks, NC, next fall. I would love to chat about locations, planners, vendors, etc. with everyone, especially since I'll be doing the majority of my planning from out-of-state. Can't wait to talk!
Hi there. From Cincinnati Ohio but planning an Aug. wedding at Topsail NC. It has been very hard to plan the wedding from so far away and since it's a small island vendors are scarce.
HI AV, I got married in the outerbanks and had such a blast planning it! If you have any questions, feel free to page me.
I'm getting married in the Asheville area in 2 weeks. We did almost all of our planning from out of state too. If anyone has any questions about locations, vendors, resources etc. in that area I'd be glad to share what I"ve learned.
I, too, am marrying in Asheville in 2 weeks (12 days!). We planned from out of state, but have local resources with family and friends there. I'm happy to share what I know!
isn't it such a great state with beautiful mountains and beaches?!
I am in chapel hill, nc but planning for 11/15 in beaufort, nc. our ceremony is at fort macon on atlantic beach!
I hear you on scarcity of beach vendors -- my good friend is planning in San Fran, and it's so funny to hear her talking about narrowing down vendors.. I'm like really? Cos there's only one gal in our location that makes beautiful cakes. It does make things a little easier in some ways!
Have any of you been experiencing a really laid back attitude about contracts from vendors though? that's been a big frustration for us..
Getting married in Raleigh in October. I'd love to get to know NC Bees better.
missrae,
It is funny that you mentioned contracts. My cake vendor and Florist both were like just give is a call at the beginning of July. I finally got them to do contracts but everything just seems so laid back. But on the flip side of it all you don't have to worry about negotiating with other vendors, it is who it is. We actually met with the bakery last Aug. and had a tasting A YEAR IN ADVANCE lol. We vacationed at Topsail and while we were there we picked out our reception site, baker, florist and photog. So it will be nice how we pull all this together.
Hi all! I just got married in Charlotte March 15. I'm was born and raised here in Charlotte so I know alot about the area if anyone needs any recommendations. Also, I lived in Asheville for about 2 years after college and my family is all from that area or even further west. Let me know if anyone needs anything. So glad to meet other NC/SC girls!
bonnie
Getting married in Greensboro in September, and I don't know the area at all! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Glad to "see" all you gals on here! I miss the South so much!! For those of you in South Carolina, check out the new South Carolina board for even more WeddingBee fun!
doing a call out here too. i just jumped from the brand new SC board!
I live near Charlotte but my wedding will be in Columbia, SC on November 1st! very excited and happy to see there are some local bees around here.
I'm trying to book a florist. and inexpensive florist. any tips on vendors in Cola, SC shoot me a pm!
Thanx!
Hi all from Asheville here! As an Asheville native, I'd be glad to help anyone that needs it! I'm getting married May 31st at Hidden River. It's an amazing place and includes everything from the linens to the plates to the centerpieces in their basic package. They have full service packages where they take care of everything vendor wise or they will let you use your own vendors and are SUPER GREAT! I couldn't suggest a better place for the price. Asheville is very much a destination wedding city and the prices reflect that. Let me know if you girls want any more info!
This local board is such a good thing!! I'm getting married in September in Highlands, NC, but I'm doing my planning from SC. We have vendors coming from all over the place - Asheville, Charlotte, Greenville, Raleigh, Wilmington ... yikes, I'm getting nervous just thinking about it! I also grew up in Raleigh, so all in all, I've become an NC expert. ;-)
Anyone else getting married in or around Highlands (or know anything about it you can recommend)? I'm also happy to share my vendor finds and any other 2 cents, if anyone's interested ...
Good luck with your planning. ladies!
Hi everyone! I'm getting married in Asheville this coming July 19th, at Claxton Farm. Anyone know of a good hairstylist in Asheville, for wedding styles or updos? Please send me a message if you need any info about other vendors in Asheville. I'd be happy to help. I live in Charlotte NC, but we've researched Asheville a lot.
I'm getting married in Raleigh next June!! We just booked our ceremony/reception site yesterday at Brier Creek Country Club (gorgeous!!).
Belatedly--Hi! I'm getting married north of Charlotte (I grew up in Davidson) in August!
Hi lauracare! Congratulations and I image your wedding is going to beautiful (as will everyone's). The Davidson area is so beautiful! I know a really great spa in that area if you're looking for one. Dancing Leaf Spa Escape (www.dancingleafspa.com) is awesome! I worked there while I was in college and that's were I had my hair done for my wedding. Thier salt glows are awesome and are really great for brides since there's very little chance of an adverse response and it makes your skin feel so good! I highly recommend them. Let me know if you need anything else.
Good luck!
Going through all the posts now and so excited to read about other NC brides! I'm in NYC but planning a November wedding in Chapel Hill. All the big stuff is done (venue, photographer, florist, etc) now its on to the details!
I'm soon to be engaged (is it wrong that I'm on this site already??)....I live in DC, but grew up in Charlotte and my boyfriend's family has a home in Highlands. We've talked about either Charlotte or Highlands....Charlotte would be easier, but Highlands is so beautiful!
I am currently getting married in Fuquay-Varina at the Highgrove Estate! I'm still looking for a good dj and ceremony musicians though everything else is booked!
Hi girls! I'm getting married in April '09 in Charlotte. So far all i have set is the place for the ceremony (St. Mary's Chapel, for those of you familiar with Charlotte). Any nice/more towards the inexpensive side ideas for reception, florists, photographers, etc? My reception will probably be around 50 people so still not sure yet if we'll have music and the whole thing or just a dinner somewhere...
Hi everyone! I'm a Chapel Hill gal getting married next June in Little Switzerland (north of Asheville on the Parkway). I just moved to North Carolina and have little hands-on knowledge of the area (though I've done tons of research -- I'm very ambitious so long as I don't have to leave my computer :) Any advice on flowers or officiants in the greater Asheville area would be welcome! Or where to avoid getting a dress in the Raleigh area...
Hi everyone, Getting married in DURHAM in November, planning it all from my laptop--EEK! I am wondering if anyone else is finding the photography to be on the high side? I did find a great make-up artist though. Any advice on photography, rehearsal dinners, receptions, florists-- I need it all! Good luck to everyone!
Hi Girls!
I am a Charlotte native and will be getting married in Asheville September 27th! Great to see so many of you from North and South Carolina!
If there are any Asheville natives around I'd love to talk to someone who would have a good recommendation for a place to hold a Bridal Brunch and a spa for pedicures, etc.
Hope everyone has a great week & happy planning :)
Chris Donald is an excellent pro photographer that's currently charging really affordable rates ($500 for 4 hrs). He's trying to build up his wedding portfolio. Check him out:

Hey ladies! I'm here in Raleigh and just got engaged last month. I can't believe how many blogs there are out there. My two favs so far are this one and Style Me Pretty. I'm going to "try" to be a DIY Bride on some things but the one thing I know I need to lock down soon is a reputable photographer. I have the venue booked and now I need to focus on that...
Has anyone had any experience with Luster Studios? It was at the top of my google search when I typed in "Raleigh wedding photography" but I don't know where else to look... Maybe there are some other recommendations before I actually go and meet with people?
one other thing... flowers are going to be a big part of the wedding as well so I need a recommendation for that too...
Thanks!
I'm getting married in 5 weeks in Greensboro. I currently live in CLT and have grown up in NC. I can't help much with vendors in Asheville but I do have 2 friends who have gotten and are getting married in Topsail Island and Wilmington as well. With the mountains and fall weddings...keep in mind the leaves turn faster there than in the middle of the state. mid to late september is best if you are trying to get the leaf color but keep in mind it's top tourist season too so rooms may be expensive for your guests.
Hi girls! I'm a Chicago native who loves the North Carolina beaches! We are getting married on Bald Head Island at a beach house next June. We just found a wonderful wedding planner named Amy Frazier! PM me if you are looking for a planner and are getting married anywhere from Wilmington to Myrtle Beach!
Also, let me know if you have any vendor recommendations for that area!
SoontobeAmandaB-
Please let me know your reviews on Hidden River, I am HIGHLY considering them for my wedding and have been really excited so far. Please let me know your experience, what you liked and didnt, any advice etc....

I am in love with this WeddingBee site. I just discovered it a few days ago. I am living in the DC area as a kindergarten teacher. My fiance and I are getting married at Bald Head Island's Country Club July 10, 2010. Our ceremony will be held on the ocean terrace, dinner in the main dining room, and dancing back out on the terrace. We love it! If any of you are planning a wedding on the island I would love to compare vendors and whatnot. Here are some pics of our wedding site.
