Unfortunately, people grieve differently.  It may just take time for him to get over the fact that his dog passed away when he wasn’t there to help.  Your friend doesn’t hold you responsible, so hopefully she can gently remind him that it wasn’t your fault.

To be honest, even if it wasn’t logical, if someone had my dog in their care and it was killed I would also have a hard  time seperating you from my hurt and anger. I’m sure, logically, he knows you weren’t at fault, but as PP said, everyone grieves differently. Give him time.

Aw, what a horrible situation. You’re not at fault but the BF sounds like he’s still holding onto irrational anger. I don’t think he hates you, you probably just remind him of the dog which is hard for him. Hopefully he’ll come around in time.
