I don't know the exact answer, but try searching for "glyphs" in the Help menu. That's what those special characters are called.
I have CS3 so it may be different. In CS3, you'll see in the Character Menu. Windows > Character. There is a small arrow on the right hand side that will open a sub menu. You'll then see Opentype. From there, you'll have different options to choose. Hope this helps.

I just downloaded the beautiful Burgues Script (I am in love) but this whole opentype thing is making me loose my mind!!
I am using Adobe Photoshop 6.0, which says it will support the open type, but from what I understand my extra characters, swashes, and flourishes should show up through my character pallet, but nothing in the extended menu says opentype.. I am so confused!
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help! I'm normally pretty good with Adobe, so not getting this is driving me insane!!
