This happens all the time! lol
My recently married friends made the same mistake & they did have difficulty returning to the US because of the mismatched names. Are you flying within the US? If not, you'll definitely have some problems! Your passport name must match the name on your ticket.
If the airline said the marriage certificate was enough then you'll be fine! Just be ready to show your marriage certificate, along with ID, to the TSA ID checker. Oh and pray for a nice person... I've dealt with some TSA jerks over the years. :)
Thanks for the quick response. It is within the US so hopefully it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I just always get all worked up at the stupid security lines anyway -- take out my baggie with liquids, take off my shoes, take off my jacket, pick up my way too heavy carry on bag and put it on the belt -- now I have to deal with this too! haha.
Oh yikes! As long as it's a domestic flight the marriage certificate should do. But I'd get to the airport an hour earlier than you planned just in case!
@Mighty - Yes I will for sure be getting there earlier then I had originally planned! How frustrating!
my sil went on a cruise about 4 years after her wedding and forgot to get a new passport, it was still in her old name. she just brought her marraige certificate and it was fine. hopefully that will be good enough for you too!
I'm sure it will be ok!! Especially since the airline instructed you to bring the marriage certificate!
I actually just had to do this (ticket in new name but hadn't changed it yet) AND we were flying internationally! I just brought my marriage certificate and crossed my fingers. The boarding pass/bag check lady said that wasn't good enough but then she was able to just change the ticket to my maiden name. Well, actually she apparently did it wrong so the lady at the gate had to fix it again but it all worked out. I'd say just allow for some extra time and be stubborn. Good luck!

So I need some advice and to see if anyone has ever been through this?
I am flying on Thursday to a friends wedding. When we purchased the tickets in December we figured my name change would be done by now, so we bought it in my new name. Well I have not changed my name yet (circumstances out of my control) and we just realized last night that the ticket is in my married name. We called the airline to ask them to change it, but they told us that we just need to bring the marriage certificate and it will be fine. And that they would not change the name unless for a fee (because it could be a different person!, ugh!!!)
Has anyone done this before? If so could you ease my mind a little? I hate security lines and I am just fearing that this is going to be awful to try to get through the lines.
Thanks!
