My dress alteration appointment is coming up, and I need to decide if I would like to add a sash or not to my dress – If I choose to, they can sew it into the back where the corset back is so that it doesn’t cover up the lacing. Except..I cannot decide if I want it or not.
Okay..so my dress is Grace by Maggie Sottero (don’t mind the hideous model-photo):
When I tried it on, they showed me a belt/sash with a fake flower that matched. I also tried it on without this sash thing – which is about $85. Here are photos of me in the dress without the sash/belt:
Now some photos with the flower sash/belt:
When I started looking, the two things I did not want were lace or 3-d flowers. I ended up with lace..and maybe the 3-d flower. Haha! The above photos are my actual dress, not sample. Please help!

I think the sash helps to define your waist so I would definitely have it sewn in.

I think you look awesome in the dress, and I think the dress is enough on its own. The sash is cute, but the dress is beautiful, so why take away from it? I think it’s the flower on the sash that I don’t like with your particular dress; a plain sash would highlight your waist but not take away from the dress decor.

Ooooh I really love your dress without it. I don’t hate the sash by any means, but I just love the overall look of the original dress and the corset back and don’t feel like it needs to be interrupted by a sash.

I think having the sash makes your waist look thinner, so I voted yes to the sash.

Thanks for the answers!! I think before my alterations appt (March 26) I’m going to go back in and try it on and fool around with some plain sashes. Maybe I’ll post a “part 2” to this thread, lol – the flower is what was getting me. I liked the sash, the flower, not so much.

I vote for a plain sash. your dress is so pretty!

I like it with the sash, but I’m a sash girl. The sash goes so well with the dress, I would for sure do it.

I like it with the sash because it gives your waist more definition!

I think the sash looks nice. BTW, you don’t need to decide on the sash right this second – most likely your seamstress is going to tack it on with a few stitches at the end. My built-in sash needs to be moved a bit on my dress and my seamstress said it was the last thing she was going to do bc its just a few stitches.

I dont think you should sew it on. this way you can take your time to decide. You can wear it for part of the ceremony and then take it off later..
