My FH and I are planning a Destination Wedding. We knew the majority of friends and family would not be able to attend due to their financial situations, and we were ok with that. Some family members have been very negative calling us selfish. I know most family wont be able to attend. Should we just forget our dream of a destination wedding and elope? (my mom said eloping wouldnt be selfish but a Destination Wedding is selfish to the people who cant afford to come). Or should we let those who want to come be there? I am very discouraged and need some advice! Please help what would you do?

@Sadihab: Tough call! I’d say do what you want and have a Destination Wedding. If your guests who can’t make it live near you, then you could host a small party when you get back.
I’m sorry you are being guilted for this… it’s your wedding, not theirs!

I absolutely HATE that people think they’re ENTITLED to come to a wedding just because they know you by face! I dont care if it’s friends or family, this shouldn’t be happening!! Entitlement. Pisses me off!

Your mom telling you not to elope is selfish of HER, not the other way around. My mom is the best but it annoyed me that she expected a wedding from me and guilt tripped me into doing a Destination Wedding at least. Maybe I’ll be grateful in the end, we’ll see getting married next month!
