Our wedding colours are dark blue (think a blueberry), blush pink, and silver.
My BM’s are across the country, and after looking at BM dresses online for months, we all decided we really, really like J Crew’s Heidi (short length). Yey, victory! But not quite.
The closest colour that J Crew has to dark blue is Matisse Blue. Fine, right? Not really. The dresses arrived, and I was a bit shocked to see that there are definite green undertones to the dress. It borders on teal.
I thought it was just my eyes or the lighting, I really, really wanted them to be perfect. They were also on sale, which is great as one BM is finishing grad school and another has recently had a baby so money is definitely a consideration.
My future mother-in-law took a look at the dresses and said, “Oh, so you’re changing the colours for the wedding to teal, pink, and silver? These dresses are teal!”
Ugh. I was hoping they weren’t so strikingly teal.
So, I’m asking for opinions. These dresses are 100% perfect except that the colour is definitely not 100% perfect. How important is it that BM dresses are the same colour as your wedding colours? I’m not talking about a slight difference… these are a different colour.

@PolkaDotLaceBride: How far are you into your wedding planning/use of the blueberry color? Could you do Teal Blush and Silver instead? It sounds lovely to me! When I was planning, I was set on Royal Blue, but ended up with Cobalt Blue, and just decided in the end to change my colors. Worked out okay! 🙂
Something like these?

Is there any possibility in getting rid of the blueberry color and just using the teal, blush, and silver?

Hi, thanks, ladies. I hadn’t really considered swapping the blueberry for teal. I’ll give it a think. The inspiration boards are really helpful, thank you so much!
This would be the first official use of our colours. Well, we’re having Save the Date postcards made, and there is some blue in those, but just in the text on the back of the postcard, and that definitely does not make or break a colour scheme!
We originally wanted dark blue because there is a lot of dark blue in the venue. Hmmm…

I think it will be fine! A week ago, I had a total meltdown over the fact that our bridesmaids’ dresses (in Dessy “midnight” blue) are a different shade of navy than the navy-and-fuschia striped ties the groomsmen will be wearing. I showed the swatch and the ties to a couple of non-wedding-planning friends of mine to see if I was just totally losing perspective, and everyone was like, “relax, it’s fine.”
It’s easy for us to worry about this kind of stuff when we’re deep into planning, but the truth is, none of your guests are going to be inspecting your wedding at that level. (And if you see anyone wandering around your reception with a Pantone color wheel, they are definitely crazy!) It’s okay if your bridesmaids dresses don’t perfectly match your linens or your centerpieces! As long as the dresses look good with the bridesmaids’ bouquets and the groomsmen’s outfits and the color of the dress is flattering on your bridesmaids, you’re totally good. 🙂
Also, for what it’s worth, I think the teal looks gorgeous with the blush!

Im sure its not what people will be noticing a few shades difference on your wedding day. If it really bugs you why not just add a few teal aspects to your day to tie in the dresses? like a few teal flowers in your bouquet or centerpieces, napkins or something. Dont stress yourself about trying to find a whole other dress that everyone will love in the same color as yours it’ll be ok!

OMG, I LOVE your wedding colors! Blueberry blush silver sounds beautiful!! As for your dilemma, can you return the dresses for a refund? If money is tight and you can’t afford to eat the costs, then you might be stuck with them.
Personally, I would not keep the dresses if it’s completely the wrong color. Bridesmaid dresses are a bigger deal than say napkin colors or ribbons or something small. Your maids will be in all your pictures, posed and candid. Do you want to look at teal in those photos for the rest of your life?
I’d say find a new dress, but that’s what I’d do. You have to decide what’s best for your maids and your wedding.

@pengoala: LOVELOVELOVE those inspiration boards!! <3 Teal.
@PolkaDotLaceBride: I LOVE the matisse blue! And I think it looks gorgeous with blush and silver. And if you still want blueberry, I don’t think it clashes at all!
