A friend recommended a century 21 realtor to us. We have not spoken with him yet but we have found a house listed with another agency (coldwell). Can the other agent still help us or do we need a coldwell banker agent??? Thank you I know nothing about the house buying process.

Generally the buyer and seller have their own agents. It can work out that they happen to be from the same agency but its not necessary and can have some downsides. So you should be just fine.

Any realtor from any agency can assist you in buying from any other realtor with any other agency.
Typically a house is listed, and the selling realtor makes a commission. If another realtor (from any company) brings them a buyer, they give them half their commission.

@FutureMrsMK: your agent will communicate with the selling agent so you can pick whatever agent you want!

I would actually recommend having a buyer agent from a different company. When we bought our house our agent could not advise us as well as we might have liked because she was from the same company and couldn’t give us advice against the other agent or something like that.
