In my reception venue, the manager told us we are not allowed to tape/nail/hang ANYTHING from the ceilings/walls. However, we can hang things from the light fixtures. There’s 2 (maybe 3, I forget) chandelier’s in the center of the room with 4 or 5 ceiling fans on the sides of the room. Then, on the walls, there are little light fixtures. I was thinking of doing draping from the chandelier’s to the ceiling fans, then over to the wall fixtures. Kinda like this:
Do you all think this would work? I really hate the ceiling fans and I have to hide them somehow, and I’ve always loved the look of draping. I was thinking about having the fabric go from the first chandelier to the first two ceiling fans…then the fabric go from the second chandelier to the back two ceiling fans. Hopefully I can pull it off and not have to hire someone to do it. Also, I hate the terrible green carpet…but I’m hoping if we dim the lights no one will notice! There’s a deck on the back through the doors with a beautiful water front view. This was one of the main reasons I booked this venue, the sunset will be amazing! Also, it let us bring in our own catering and alcohol. This was really important to us because FI’s aunt is a professional caterer and is doing our reception for free! 🙂
Oh, also here’s our ceremony venue…I’m having an October wedding and this is right on the water so I hope the wind isn’t too cold:
Let me know what you all think! 🙂

1. If there a guarantee that no one would turn-on the ceiing fans; if not, , I’d imagine you’d have a problem.
2. The venue may not want people attaching things to the wall/ceiling surfaces and damaging them, but it also could have something to do with the local fire code, and patron safety.

@BlueBellPa: I was thinking about putting a sign over the ceiling fan switches so no one can turn them on, that would be awful! Haha. But he said the reason he doesn’t want things on the ceiling and walls is because he doesnt want nail holes and people peeling off the paint with their tape.

That seems SO strange tht you can hang stuff from the lighting fixtures and not to the ceiling!! Hello, codes haha! I think the draping would look nice, what are you planning on hanging?
LOVE the ceremony location!

@lealorali: Supposedly there is only a certain % of the ceiling I can cover to keep up with the fire codes…so I gotta look into that first!
I honestly don’t know what I’m going to hang yet…it’s a pretty big room so whatever I decide needs to be cheap! I read tulle and/or organza work well. I want to put some fairy lights beind the fabric too. I was thinking a light coral color and some ivory fabric would look pretty 🙂

Just saw this site posted on another board. This really could be your solution …
I haven’t used this product, so I can’t endorse it, but I watched the video and it looked pretty easy. It would allow you to hang drapping from the ceiling and still adhere to the venue’s rules.
