they cost a lot!
my venue wanted me to rent them for $5 a chair + 2.50 per slash
unacceptable
so i bought mine off ebay i ended up paying about $1.90 per self tie cover.
here are some sites that had cheaper covers

i dont think you're going to find much cheaper than jadeblinkx's amount. the cheapest i found at a local rental company was $2.50 for a basic cover. i found some online places that have them as low at $2 but that's not including shipping. i was hesitant going the online route also because i wasn't sure if they really would be shipped to me in good condition and you have to clean them before shipping them back.
we're actually skipping the chair covers ourselves. most people don't really remember them after the wedding is over.
I think mine were 2.75 per chair. Most decor rental places should have them. I won't go into specific sources, since anything I know, definitely won't be a realistic option for you.
Cost will vary on the area. In Cleveland, I couldn't find them cheaper than 5 dollars a chair, I went to Akron, where my reception is and got them for like 4.25 a chair.. that was cover and sash.
It's definately an investment! You could also look into renting simple white wooden folding chairs. If they fit in with your theme, they are simple & probably the same price as chair covers.
We had a BIG room & not a ton of guests, so the chair covers helped to visually add more stuff to our room - but they can make a small space seem cluttered.
Best of luck!
What color do you want? I have 100 ivory satin that were used once and laundered and ready to sell. Let me know if you're interested!
You can get the sashes pretty cheap too. I have several sources, but the best and least expensive was WeddingLinensDirect.com
We didn't get chair covers. They were 2.50 per covere and I think another dollar for sash. It ended up being cheaper to rent white wood chairs for us, than rent chairs with chair covers and sash.

Ok ladies so I decided that I want to consider having chair covers because I am not so crazy about the chairs at my venue. I will need about 130 chair covers with shashs. Where do I get chair covers and how much is this gonna run me?!
Thanks!
