@lizzierose: Ugh! I really wish you'd had replies on this!! I got engaged December 3, 2010 and [no joke] like 10 days after I got my ring I noticed a small chip on the edge/side of my diamond (its a princess cut). I feel so guilty and completely terrible about it & I know it makes me seem aweful, but I have yet to tell my FI about it! I am terrified to tell him, it is going to hurt him so bad especially if we'd have to pay to get it fixed. He spent his entire savings on this ring (it is way more than I ever expected). We got the ring from Jared as well. Do you know anything about their warranty/insurance? How do I know it'd be covered? I think it would be so much easier to tell him if I knew for a fact it'd be fixed for little or no cost.
This has been eating at me for so long. I know that "technically" I am lying to him, but I feel like I am doing it to avoid hurting him. (He kind of got laid offa few days after Christmas, and was on unemployment for 2 weeks before getting a job.) Then January 6th one of our dogs died & he was the one there with her when she seized in the car on the way to the vet. So it has been bad timing ever since.
I know this has been an extremely long post & most of it isn't even related to your e-ring issue, but if you know anything about Jared and how to find out if my ring is covered I'd really appreciate it!
So sorry for both of you! I would be soo sad if my rock got chipped. She's my baby!
@soon to be -- Don't worry, you should be covered! All diamonds sold by Jared have a replacement guarantee if they are chips, breaks, are lost from the setting. You do need to have your ring inspected every six months (it's free and they clean and re-plate it and all that jazz, too).
@soontobeMrsEschberger: Thanks for your response lady! First off..so sorry to hear about your situation and your doggie =( I have 2 dogs myself..so I can totally relate! Here is what I know about jareds replacement policy..they will repair/replace any setting or stone that was purchased there as long as you make sure that you bring your ring into the store for the inspections. I chipped my stone (princess cut!!) soon after I had gotten it, so I had never made it to the first inspection anyway. Since you said he purchased the entire ring from Jared, you have nothing to worry about =) They will replace your stone..no extra cost to you. Hope that helps!!!!!
@lizzierose: I found an inclusion in my supposedly flawless sidestone a few weeks ago and brought it in to be replaced. I know there's a better diamond going in, so my concern isn't exactly the same as yours, but I AM worried I'm going to get the ring back and they'll have replaced the wrong stone!
The girl taped the ring to a post-it and drew an arrow to the one that needed to be replaced and wrote "REPLACE THIS ONE" on it, but I can't help but be paranoid. Maybe she drew the arrow to the wrong stone? Maybe they dropped it when they untaped it and got mixed up? Lol - I'm pathetic. I'll have it back on Wednesday and can finally relax.
@bluegreenjean:awww thanks!! I was heartbroken when I saw that chip. I guess my concern is that I happened to have lucked out and gotten a really great stone. When I brought the ring back into the store with the chip on it, all the sales people remembered my stone first coming into the store. Apparently it should have been graded even higher than what the GIA cert had said. So I'm thinking that the replacement might not be as nice as the original. Anyway, I'm sure it will all work out in the end!
@deliciousappleblue:LOL! You sound like me! I would be creating all these ideas about the note falling off of the ring..replacing wrong stone. Yeah..I'm sure the Jared people thought I was crazy after we dropped off my ring.
@bluegreenjean: Thank you! I am going to go to Jared and ask them what they can do.
@lizzierose: I've only had my for 2 months, so I'm not due for my inspection until May but I will definitely take it in asap!
Thank you both! I am not as concerned about telling my FI now, I just have to find the right moment..hmm..
I am surprised that they didn't let you pick a new center stone to be sure you'd be happy with it! I would think that if you're not pleased with the replacement diamond they'd be obligated to replace it once again. After all, you should be the one to pick the replacement stone!!
@OrangeSneakers:I know, right!!! That would make more sense to me. They have an in-store repair section that handles all of the stone setting,sizing,etc...but they told me that when they have to do certain repairs/replacements, the ring is sent out to their main service center. They copied my GIA cert..and sent it in with my ring. I wonder why the main service center wouldn't just send simular stones to the Jareds that I had gone to...and let me decide which one I would like as my replacement. I guess I will just trust them..and see how it looks when I go to pick it up. They said it could take up to 6 weeks for me to get my ring back..It has been 3 wks so far.
Please keep us updated, I am in a simular situation. They are supposed to be picking a replacement, and Im soo nervous!! I hope it is as great as the original!
@lizzierose: Have you gotten your ring back yet?? I'm eager to hear how things went!!
Hey Bees! Here is my update!!
I just got my ering back yesterday! It took basically 5 weeks(loooong weeks!). I do want to say that Jared did an EXCELLENT job with my replacement stone. The salesman who had been helping us from day one, said it had come in a few weeks ago, but he sent it back because even though the ct. weight was the same..this new stone had a smaller mm measurement. This time when they sent my ring back, they put in a stone with the same ct. weight, but bigger mm diamensions. The best part is that they kicked up the clarity! I went from a very good cut, to an excellent cut. My new diamond def has more sparkle and fire to it =)...and it is still a GIA cert stone. So all in all, I walked away with a better stone. I am so happy with my ring! Excited to be able to wear it again!!
Here is a pic of my 'new' e-ring..not the best cause it was taken by my cell ;)
@k8stacey-I hope everything goes well with your ring!! If they take care of you like they did me...you have no worries!
@lizzierose: Yayy!!! I am so excited for you!! That is awesome! I just hope when I take mine in I get the same amazing service you did!!
@soontobeMrsEschberger: I hope that you do too!! Let us know what happens!!
Okay...so I know its been 3 months, but I finally took my ring in (to Jared) on Sunday (it was mandatory to have it inspected by today because of the whole 6 month inspection rule) Well, I ofund out that my center diamond is loose & has a chip in it (I knew about the chip, but not that it was loose)! Ughh! So he told me that in order for me to keep the warranty/insurance I had to have the center diamond replaced and that it was going to take 6 to 8 weeks!! (OMG!), so as he was copying the GIA certificate and all the other paper work I was standing there holding my ring & trying my best not to cry. I could barely get out of the door before I started balling because I knew I didn't have my ring & that I wouldn't have it for quite some time. I called FI 4 times, but he wouldn't pick up & I needed to talk to someone so I called the next best person, my mom, and she freaked at first when she heard me sobbing but then once I told her what happened and how bad I felt because I "broke" my ring & how FI is going to think I'm irresponsible and be mad, she laughed(just a little though)! She did the whole mom thing where they say "Oh honey, its okay. He's not going to be mad, things happen and its not your fault, you wear it everyday so it is okay." --Let me just say that I love my mother, she is the best and is so good in a "crisis" like this-- So when I finally told FI he wasn't happy (& at first he was almost mad, but that's because he thought he would have to pay to get it fixed, then when I told him he didn't he was okay)
Ugh! This is wayyy longer than I intended, but I really had to tell someone that I knew would possibly understand!
Just wanted to say, from a jeweler's perspective, I loved reading how great Jared's was with their return policy. I've heard good things about them and liked your story.
Diamond, especially Princess cut diamonds can chip. Those edges are really thin and if you hit them just right a chip will happen.
You're wearing your ring daily and you drive your car daily, chips and dings happen and your fiance shouldn't get mad at you at all. Would he get mad at your if someone parking lot dinged your car while you were shopping? Of course not.
Only two women I've ever talked to who had chipped their diamonds know when it happened. One women fell and chipped her diamond and the other had it go through the garbage disposal. Both diamonds are worn to this day. One got re-polished, the other one is worn with the chip still there.
Just thought I'd weigh in on this interesting thread.

Hello bees! I've been reading the ring posts for a bit, but this is my first time posting!
Basically I'm having a little bit of a freak out over my e-ring, and was hoping that maybe someone has had a simular situation and can put my mind to ease! About 3 weeks ago, I noticed a super, super small chip on my diamond( I can't believe I even saw it!!).. right where the prong is. I took my ring in right away because I was worried about anything else happening to it. We bought both the stone and setting from Jared..so they will replace the stone no problem. The guys at our Jared told me not to worry, and I just might end up with a slightly better stone in the end anyway. My question is this, has anyone ever been dissapointed with their replacement stone?? As in it looks visually off to you? I know it has to be replaced with same 4 c's or better..but every diamond is different...so I guess that's why i'm worried. Especially since I really loved that stone. I've been without my ering for almost 3 weeks, so maybe I'm just creating scenarios in my head..lol. Sorry for the lenghtly post ladies!!!
