- Wedding: July 2013
I’ve had a particularly hard time selecting a set of dishes (only doing one type) and am finally down to two from Crate and Barrel, both similarly priced and both made of Porcelain.
- The Maison: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/maison-dinnerware/f11022
- And the Roulette (all white): http://www.crateandbarrel.com/roulette-4-piece-place-setting/s471984.
Here’s my issue – originally I wanted Staccato because I wanted white with a slight design, but the more I looked at it, the more I thought it had a gray tint to it and it bothered me. I finally came around to plain white dishes with a traditional feel to them (Maison) and the Roulette which had a very basic design with a few rings.
I’d like to get a set that will “last a lifetime” and can be dressed up or down. My general style is traditional/country and I love the Tuscany flatware (more expensive than the dish sets per setting!): http://www.crateandbarrel.com/search.aspx?query=tuscany#fork-r4294959168.
I like the varied serving pieces with the Roulette but also find it to have a grayish sheen (although not as much as Staccato) and I wonder if it’ll be harder to “mix and match” with different colors, styles and other white pieces should some plates break and the line be discontinued or if I need to supplement pieces that the Roulette line doesn’t offer. The Maison is a bit brighter and goes better with the more basic serving pieces and accent pieces found at C&B and other stores, but is it too plain?
Does anyone have either and can they comment?
Thanks so much!
