We’ve been through purple, yellow, navy & lime, purple, and now I’m thinking of going back to yellow.. To be accurate we weren’t really planning until navy & lime, the purple & yellow before that were just things we liked.
Our venue is outdoors under a pavilion like thing. See the pics. One is of the stage where we’re having our reception, and the other is of where our ceremony will be. (They are right next to each other.)
I for some reason am having a hard time with purple because there are so many shades of it and I want them all. Also I got teased by family (extended family) everytime we brought up purple because another cousin of mine had purple and she’s not so nice, so a lot of people were “eeek dont do that like her”
I also just think yellow looks happier and more suitable for outdoors. Another problem is that I can’t use yellow Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses even if I pick yellow.
On the other hand I really love the color purple.
I just cant choose! If you could vote and/or comment it would be greatly appreciated!

I say go for the purple and use the yellow for some accents. I say this because you seem to be in love with the purple. Don’t be afraid to use several different shades of purple. It will give life to your venue and add some texture. The eyes like to see different colors and textures. It makes them happy. Not everything has to be matchy matchy. I have to keep reminding myself of that too because I like everything to match, but sometimes, a lot of times, it actually looks much better if everything doesn’t completely match.
P.S. Don’t worry about your cousin. You aren’t anything like her and I am sure people would like a happy experience with purple to drown out the bad

I grew up with my parents (and aunties and uncles) always saying “don’t act like that, you sound like *cousin*” and “if you do that, you’re gonna grow up to be like *cousin*”…i thought it was nuts but when i said “purple” they said “ewww, you’re going to be like *cousin*” LOL

I personally LOVE yellow, I might be a bit biased because we are using yellow for our wedding.
But if you decide to go with purple, you could always just use a lot of different shades of purple, then you wouldn’t have to worry about matching them all, as long as it was purple! My cousin is doing this, even with bridiesmaid dresses and it looks awesome, and she doesn’t have to stress over anything being the “right” purple.

i personally like yellow better, i agree with you that it’s a happy color! why wouldn’t you be able to use it for dresses?

Yellow is such a cheery, hopeful, bright color. I love it for weddings, especially one in June! Although the richness of purple is compelling as well. Have you thought of using both?
It can be such a beautiful combination. (The only thing which would prevent me, personally, from using this combo is that those were my high school colors.)

Thanks for the comments ladies, they’ve all been really great to read and think about!
artbee- My Maid/Matron of Honor doesn’t want to wear yellow. Then again she wasnt too fond of purple either. lol. She’s Chinese and insists that her skin tone and yellow don’t work. And I don’t want her to feel uncomfortable…But there are alternatives for the dresses. I even think that since the dress we’re ordering is a short dress, white with yellow sash would be nice.

Tough call, and I think they both make AMAZING wedding colors. A friend of a friend used three shades of purple for her wedding and it looked great in pics. Maybe you could do that & have it all! I think yellow is amazing though. There is so much you can do with it. You can incorporate lemons into your decor (so cute!) or daisies or yellow tulips. I agree with you, its so happy! Gray/silver looks great with yellow, so does black and white. I also like navy and yellow. You could keep it simple with just yellow and white. My vote is for yellow but purple would be awesome too. Good luck!

What about yellow and gray…you could toss in pops of purple and I think it would look stunning…
check out this website for pretty pictures of yellow and gray- (and purples too..) http://www.seattlestyle.com/couturecoloure/
The gun metal gray could be your bridesmaid dresses and would look great on a variety of skin tones…
Just an idea 🙂

i used yellow as my primary color and had chocolate brown and purple accents. it all looked really pretty! i think if you like both of them, yellow and purple look nice together, especially in flowers.
as for bridemaids dresses, i agree that yellow isn’t a good choice as it’s not flattering on everyone. my girls wore chocolate brown, because it’s a basic color. i thought about black but was afraid that they’d look like bumblebees in black and yellow 🙂

I’m so into purple right now. It almost makes me want to change our wedding colors.

Personally I’m all about yellow, but that may be because we’re using it. 🙂 If you love purple, go for it and don’t worry about “that cousin”! And I like noritake’s suggestion – I think purple and yellow look awesome together!

Why not do yellow and purple together? You can do diff shades of each color.

We’re doing yellow! A pale yellow & a pale pink are our colors! I LOVE it! We ordered Jasmine B2 Dresses in the color Chardonnay and that turned out to be a pale yellow, it’s BEAUTIFUL!!! That stinks that your Maid/Matron of Honor won’t wear yellow – can’t she just understand for one day?? I’d definitely look into yellow & possibly a light purple as an accent.
