Question first, Do either of the companies "refurbish" their matresses? I saw a whole show on most manufacturers "refurbish" their matresses. Now I am fanatical about checking to see if the company we buy from does that because I will not even chance buying one of those.
@tksjewelry: For sure Hypnos mattresses are not refurbished. They are made from scratch once ordered and take two months to get in. This is the brand that provides the royal family w/mattresses! lol
I really doubt the media strom is refurbished as well, but I'll know now to ask! Thanks!
The diamond Media Strom has more springs than the Hypnos one...does that mean it's better?
Have you guys layed on them? DH and I got a new one last year, and we ended up going with one that wasn't even on our list after laying on all of them. I really think that is the best way to know for sure. Do they have matress stores in Greece like they do here?
@tksjewelry: Yeah they do and we layed on all of them to narrow it down to these two. They are both good, but the media strom one felt more "cloud-like" if that makes sense. :) However the Hypnos mattresses have an amazing reputation and was cheaper.
Its hard cause the stores are far apart so we cant really try them back to back to see which we prefer. I was wondering if maybe one is considered better for our bodies based on their stats?
DH and I spent months picking out a mattress, going to all the big stores in the area and pretty much trying everything, and talking to all the salespeople.
Perosnally, we didn't consider any pillow top mattresses because we were told the pillow top itself wears out faster.
I believe more springs, especially pocket springs is supposed to be better - movement is less noticeable.
We ended going with a part memory foam/part latex matress that was several hundred more than we were planning on spending, but we have no regrets! We have to rotate it every month but its still so freaking comfortable.
I wouldn't go with a pillow top if either of you have back problems. I was in physical therapy for months at the end of last year and they told me a pillow top is the worst thing for back problems because it provides no support, even if it feels soft.
FI and I just got a great deal on a memory foam mattress from IKEA. Do you have those in Greece (you are in Greece if I remember correctly, right?)? We had originally bought a traditional spring mattress from a company out here with a great reputation, but it only lasted a year before it started collapsing on us!
The memory foam we got is really supportive, but also doesn't give you that "I'm trying to sleep on a rock" feeling like some of them do. I'm pretty sure it was also only about $500-$600 USD.
@MissAsB: <--- She is very correct about the back problems. FI is an athelete so firm mattresses are much better for his achy muscles and joints, and I've noticed that I have significantly less back and neck pain ever since we switched to a memory foam. Love it!
@MrsCarnival: I really really want a memory foam for our next bed! Need to find a bed set and then I'm getting one no matter what husband says!
I really like whatever we have - beautyrest or something? We were told the same thing on pillow-tops, they are softer, but they wear out faster.
Have you considered a tempurpedic mattress? I'm about the pickiest person you'll ever meet when it comes to mattresses and after a long search and returning 4 different mattresses, I went with a tempurpedic cloud and love it! They're a little pricey, but well worth it for me.
I'm surprised about the pillow-top thing...hypnos mattresses are supposed to be super comfortable and incredibly durable...
argh, this is such a hard decision because it's SO important.
@MissAsB: We seriously love our memory foam. We had looked at the Tempurpedic ones, but they are SO expensive and they didn't seem all that different from the ones at IKEA. We got a great deal on ours and we love it!
@Lemma: I'm the same way! Years(!) of back problems (from severe scoliosis as a kid) and sleepless nights on many different spring mattresses. We've had our Tempur-pedic Cloud Queen for a few months and I friggin' love it. I don't even wake up when DH gets into bed. I used to wake up when a car drove down the street.
OP, if you haven't considered the Tempur-pedic (and not to add more options, I know it's a hard decision!), try it out. Pricey, and heavy as all get-out, but has been amazing for us.

Hi fellow nesters. :)
I need help picking our mattress. We want to invest in an amazing mattress that will have durability and will make us feel both supported but also rested and refreshed.
DH and I have done our research and narrowed it down to two:
Hypnos Pillow Top Prestige: site.co.uk/hypnos-prestige.html
Media Strom Diamond: http://www.mediastrom.gr/en/mattresses/optimum/product/31/DIAMOND/
They Hypnos is 500 euros less which is a plus! And they have an amazing reputation. The Media Strom felt a little more cloud-like which was nice, but they both have 6 layers of pocket springs.
Any mattress experts out there?
