Okay, a little back story… I was put on the pill at age 16 for super irregular/painful periods and remained on it for a solid 7-8 years. My doctor then wanted me to get off it for a few years (not sure why, he’s kinda old school), and since fiance and I were already serious at that point I didn’t really mind. I don’t remember having any problems with side effects, just some mild nausea in the very beginning.
Fast forward to now: with all of the stress with our wedding, my best friend’s wedding, and life in general, my period has progressively gotten later and later. So here I am, 2 weeks out from our big day and I’m forecasted (as if it’s the weather or something, HAHA) to get my period THE DAY OF our wedding. Bummer, right? Majorly. My day 1 and 2 are murder. I’m pretty much dreading it.
Well, I have the opportunity to get back onto birth control in the next few days, and I’m seriously considering it, especially since it will delay my period until well after the wedding. And yes, I understand that I can have some break through bleeding, but that’s the least of my concerns.
I’m wondering if I’ll get some of the more annoying side effects (nausea, vomiting, mood swings, etc…) so close to the wedding. I’m also slightly worried about the chance of some weight gain (no need for unexpected dress issues) and possible acne (I’ve been taking stellar care of my skin the last 6 months). For what it’s worth, and like I briefly mentioned, I didn’t have any side effects the first time around aside from some mild nausea, however, I’d be going on a different brand now, so obviously there’s definitely a chance for that.
Thoughts ladies? Should I take the chance or just hold out and deal with Aunt Flo for a few days?

@Saria213: I would not want to be on my period for my wedding, but that is your choice. If you start BCPs you might spot anyway. If you are worried about bloat just watch your salt and drink lots of water 🙂 Weigh the pros and cons! 🙂
Also I would reccomend going back on the brand you were before- I would not try to go on a different unfamiliar brand.

@Saria213: I wouldn’t worry about weight gain as I doubt any gain would be that significant within 2 weeks. I’d think more about side effects like headaches which I usually get when starting the pill, but then again, I’d rather take a Tylenol to get rid of a headache than have my period for my wedding. All things considered, I’d probably do it if I planned to stick with the pill afterwards too.

I did this cause I have an IUD but was supposed to get my period the day of. Any potential side effects are better in my book than having cramps and bloating on your wedding!

I would get on it. I will say that I’ve tried TONS of different pills before and the only time I’ve ever had any weird side effects in the first two weeks is when I switched from Loloestrin to Gianvi (generic of Yaz) and I was nauseous for the first few weeks. Also, I would talk to someone about the possibility of having PCOS.

If you don’t care what happens to your body after your wedding, I would say do it. You will most likely have spotting, whether minor or major. The last time I tried to skip my period with the pill it was AWFUL. Just awful. I was spotting pretty bad anyway and then for an entire MONTH after, I was bleeding heavily, had horrid cramping, was a total monster, and it was just plain uncomfortable.
However, I would not want to be on my period for my wedding and I would consider doing that just to not have to deal with the whole process. Because that is the only thing I would be worried about the whole night is breakthrough bleeding because I forgot to put a new tampon in because of being so busy.
Just be sure the pill will work with you. Get on the same hormones you were on before that worked well. I switched hormones once because of switching pill and…whooooo boy. That was SCARY.
