you just need something to tie the string around. the first pic looks like it might go around a tree, and the second looks like some poles were just stuck in the sand. (actually, the second looks like it has a horizontal pole held up by 2 vertical poles stuck in the sand...the first would be easier).
you could make it like a chuppah - get 2 flower pots, fill with cement and stick in a pole. once the cement dries, you can cover with flowers or something. then tie string around the poles and hand the cards from the string with clothespins/knots.
@kitzy: That's an EXCELLENT idea! I would have never thought of flower pots, but that would definitely be sturdy enough! It could be really pretty too and fit in with our garden theme! Thank you :) OMG I love this idea!

Hey hivers!
My mom and I really want to start making this escort card display, which I blogged about a few months back:
The problem is that we have no idea what structure to use. Do you have any ideas? We don't have two trees to hang a clothes line from like you see in this picture, and would like to be able to transfer it inside (in case of rain).
Any ideas on a structure to hold this/display it?
