We looked into some high quality plastic plates for our wedding and I found this website that will send you a sample pack of several of their plates, some plastic glasses and silverware, and you only pay shipping. They seemed pretty high quality as far as plastic plates can go and you can't beat FREE for the samples.
Here's the link for where you can order the sample pack: http://dontdodishes.upscalepartydisposables.com/store/product/3048/Sample-Pack/
I wish I could remember who but one of the bees used smarty had a party and thats what I'm looking into as well... I have no idea about quality yet but they definitely have the best look as far as disposables go for the price.
WOW.. .Are we having the same wedding??? Hehe :)
I am doing the Ecoware as well and actually had this same question.
Glad to see some answers, I will have to check these places out.

I Googled "biodegradable plates" (don't know if that is important to you or not, but it might give some good results)

I've heard good things about these palm leaf ones.
I have seen some great bamboo eco-ware plates. They are very sturdy and totally compostable. They would go great with your bamboo utensils. Ill try and find a pic of them.
Here you go : http://www.webstaurantstore.com/bambu-060700-9-disposable-bamboo-plate-100-cs/175060700.html
Someone else on here suggested Verterra so that's what we're doing. They're made from leaves so we're having a composting service "dispose" of them. My bridesmaids thought they were way cooler than paper and all that plastic was unacceptable. I figure 120 guests need 2 plates each and Verterra comes in packs of 300 for $175.
If you decide to get those plates, you might look for the brand name elsewhere. For example, they are $10 a case less expensive at this link. It always amazes me that so many people seem to use Smarty Had a Party, even though their prices on everything seem to be higher than can easily be found elsewhere.
The ones naangel posted are the ones I'm getting! :) I love their look, so awesome!
I'm struggling with this as well but I'm actually considering purchasing inexpensive "real" plates. Our reception is very relaxed, a fun carnival theme but on a small budget. What boggles my mind is that I could actually buy stoneware plates (like these from Ikea) for just 79 cents each, ditto great deals on glasses and flatware (bulk "real" flatware is SUPER cheap at Sam's Club). Then I could donate them (and write off the donation) or sell them to someone else, making them a lot cheaper than the disposables (or at least the nicer biodegradable disposables).
What's holding me back is that we would have to lug around big boxes of heavy dishes after our event :(
Is this too crazy? I just can't help feeling like it would be better for the environment to throw less things away and actually be able to reuse them or pass them on.
my only problem with buying real plates is who is going to wash them off before they are packed up?
Look at branchhome.com; they have some beautiful biodegradable options. They're a bit expensive, though. I'm very seriously considering using the WASARA collection (http://www.branchhome.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=39), even though my reception will be indoors, because my venue has no kitchen, and I'm having trouble figuring out how we would manage to wash all those plates, silverware, etc. if we didn't go the disposable route.
has anyone actually had a sample or seen the bamboo ones?I think theyre so cool looking but im not sure quality wise
I've posted this pic in a couple of places. These are nice, thick plastic plates (and flatware!) from BJ's. We used them for a holiday dinner after I had a baby. They look great--you can't tell from looking at them that they're plastic.

Wow everyone has shared a lot of great ideas!
For the ones considering real plates, have you decided on how to wash them and take them back after the ceremony yet?
Bah... I hate to be wasteful with plastic ones and the biodegradable ones are definitely pricey.
I need to make some decisions soon!
has anyone tried yoshi plastic plates?

Wow... these are eco-friendly in that we can re-use them and they are cheaper than disposable!
Looked at them in person at Dollar Tree... very much considering this.
I know this is an old post, but I came across it in my search so others might too. These are affordable, and easily the prettiest disposable plates I have ever seen. Environmentally friendly, too. I'm thinking of doing these for my 2nd reception together with the bamboo silverware (knife, fork, sponn with a chocolate paper napkin and a spice bow).

Okay, I need to know what the best options are for disposable plates. We are doing BBQ and having a buffet. Yet, I still want the wedding to have a really classy feel to it... I am using bamboo utensils and tying them to really fancy napkins and then I would like to have nice looking plates.

Are those sturdy enough?
Any suggestions on plates that will work well for this?
