    This is my first DIY idea and I need some feedback please.

    My FI and I are renewing our vows, seven days after our original wedding (done out of province), so that our kids and family in our own province can help us celebrate. We are doing this at a camp (wedding tent, twinky lights, dance floor, dj, firepit, and fried chicken).

    We were looking for cake ideas tonight, but given the rustic nature of our venue, we think that a real cake would be over the top (hard to keep and serve given that there is no running water). But...I still really want the ritual of 'cutting the cake' with him.

    We were thinking of getting a cardboard cupcake stand, stacking giant campfire marshmallows for roasting, and decorating it like a cake (maybe with some silk flowers, pine cones, etc).

    Is there anybody out there that has built a marshmallow wedding cake? Any ideas?

    I would probably stick it together with dots of frosting. Or, you could of course melt them together. Maybe stick them with melted marshmallows, or marshmallow fluff?

    I think it sounds like an awesome idea!

    @fzesguer:

    @Baimee:

    Thanks for the input...I wasn't sure if anyone would see the vision lol! The stand we are looking at is disposable 4 tier and meant to hold 70 cupcakes...I figure the giant roasting marshmallows are about the size of a cupcake? May or may not need to be stuck togeher with marshmallow fluff...maybe even stacked with graham crackers and pieces of chocolate? lol. I figure there'll be lots of kids to deconstruct and roast them.

    Inspiration was

    But using a stand that we can burn afterward (all trash needs to be packed out)

    That's fun! You can use toothpicks to stack them too. You can always tie a big ribbon around the 'cake' to hold it together a little better! You could really do just about anything to it.

    How about a smores bar and no cake?

    @lawbride88:  We thought of that too, but we will have our usual lot of kids wanting to actually roast marshmallows...but that's kind of where the idea stemmed from was a smores cake :)

    @Baimee:  Looking into things a little more and saw that someone had actually glued ribbon around the circumference of each layer! I was even thinking of picking up fake flowers/vines and dressing it up like a real tiered cake lol. My kids are pretty excited about the idea :)

    I voted for "burn that cake!" but I wasn't sure if that meant I liked the idea or I don't like the idea.  But i love the idea!!  I even went so far as to make a mock-up in Paint for you.  :)  What can i say, i'm bored at work??

    I thought it woudl be cute to dip a few of the marshmallows in sprinkles, maybe the ones on the top layers, like this:

    Good luck!!

    @Kings7911:  Oh wow! I don't have these computer skills! That is exactly what I was picturing though! Although with the 'giant' marshmallows there might not be as many layers per tier (maybe one, or two). Thanks for doing this! I must show the FI tonight :)

    I love the sprinkle idea too...some of the kids don't like their marshmallows roasted so maybe even some chocolate sauce and sprinkles on the top of each layer...ooo

    Yes, I think 'burn that cake' meant 'enjoy' when we put the poll together lol

    @dihy:  Glad you like it!!  I agree, using the jumbo marshmallows would make less layers.  And like you said, they are about the size of a cupcake so it should be perfect!  I love the chocolate idea.  :)  I've never tried roasting those giant marshmallows, I wonder if they take extra long to roast?

    I just had one more thought... although it may look weird.  What if you put the marshmallows in cupcake liners?  :)
