I think you have a very lovely figure, but the dress you received in the mail today is of a style and fabric that will show EVERYTHING, even with the Spanx. Even though the dress is very pretty, I don't think you will be comfortable wearing it and probably should return it since you have the ability to do that.
I think it might just be the way your body is shaped (like you seem to have hip bones that stick out that make the belly part). I think the other one might be better, because I don't think you have a fat situation that you could smoosh down with a corset or whatever
I would almost go out and try a spanks body suit, they have them at victoria secret to try on (was there last week). They are strapless and go down to the upper thigh. You can also wear a tummy one, that only slims the tummy area under a body spank. that may help. What spanks style are you wearing?
I would think a corset would make it worse becuase the dress looks like its already pulling a little bit. But then agian if you get a longline one it may help, but I think the line where it ends would show.
I actually clamped the back to see what it would look like fitted. Maybe I have the clamps too tight?
And the "spanx" that I got were the VS version that you described. The XS seemed a little too tight (I've never wore shapewear before, maybe its supposed to be that tight). So I got the S instead. I'm wondering if the XS will work better?
I don't know :(
Honestly I would buy another dress. Thoses dreses show everything no matter how thin you are.
I think you have identified the problem. You have it clamped too tight. You can tell by the horizontal wrinkles in the dress. Satin has to skim over the body.
This is what I would do.
Get your dress, spanks and shoes and go to JcPenny, or Macys. Grab a pair of spanks like this http://www.freshpair.com/Spanx-Slimplicity-High-Waist-Panty-985.html and a longline corset. I would put on either one first then put on the dress spanks. See what happens then. My mom is wearing two spanks to my wedding. She wears the larger on top of the smaller. Maybe thats werid but she likes it better. :)
It could just be that the dress is too fitted, so you see everything in the pictures. Try loosening the clamps a little and see if you like it better. As it is right now it just looks too tight around the middle. Maybe with it loosened it will look just fine.
By the way cute dress. If you have your heart set on this one I would try and make it work before moving on to the other dress. You have a great figure! :)
IMO if something annoys you the first time you try it on it probably always will.....
So hard because the dress you have is a beautifullllll dress and even though (sorry!!) I (barely kinda sorta) see the belly shadow (I would still kill for your body!!!) I think you should stick with it. Maybe do 1,000 crunches (lol jk) every day until then and try to find tighter spanx. Seriously, that dress looks KILLER on you! I wish I could wear it!
Ok I tried on the dress again but only clamped the top and below my butt.
It helped the belly shadow some but you can still see belly button, and depending on how I stand you can still see the belly shadow. :( I'm thinking I might have to go with the ruched bodice dress.
I voted for going with the second one...you're gorgeous, btw!
I think it looks great when you clamped it looser. It just needs to be properly fitted.
I took a gander at this dress on other brides on the internet (preowned sites, etc.) and there are women of different shapes and sizes who looked good in it, and most of them are probably larger than you simply because you are "a (very lovely) slip of a woman" so I am totally confident that you are not the problem and I don't think the dress is a problem either. If it were fitted to you properly I'm sure it would be gorgeous, but I can understand you being nervous all the same, because you don't have the final product to judge at this point. I'll just say that the overall effect is really pretty on you, and since I'm not a fan of ruching, and you have a figure that does not need to be "hidden," I hope this dress works out for you.

I got a used Melissa Sweet Lia in the mail today and I was super excited to try it on. I didn't realize that the smooth satin would show so much! You can see my belly button and I have a belly shadow! And I'm wearing spanx underneath! I have 2 days to decide if I want to keep the dress. The other dress that I tried on in the store had a ruched bodice that hid everything.
Here's the Lia:

Not the exact dress but you get the idea:

Do I need to wear a corset or tighter spanx? What do I do?
