"Affordable" is completely subjective. What is "Affordable" to you and your budget?
The average for a professional photographer is anywhere from 2k to 10k, respectively.
So it really depends on what you can afford and how important good photography is to you and your fiance.
-There is nothing wrong with negotiating, just as long as you don't expect something for nothing. If you want the price lowered, be prepared and willing to remove items or time from the package.
-It is important to pick a photographer who's style you like. Do not expect a photographer to shoot in a different style that what they are showing you, this is just asking for a disaster. The photographer (if a professional) will know the standard wedding shots to take, but if you have an actual special request feel free to tell them (ie. dont ask for them to take a photo of the ceremony kiss, they will know to do that. But if you want a photo laying in the grass or a photo of your great aunt susie, by all means tell your photographer - otherwise do not expect to get those shots).
-I would recommend definitely getting a professional album from your photographer (even if you don't order it until your first anniversary). Sure you can get a "photobook" online from tons of places for cheap, but these are photo BOOKS not photo ALBUMS... there is a huge difference. The albums are better quality and are archival (albums are stronger and the colors will not fade over time). Plus a pro album will be expertly designed by your photographer as opposed to some cheesy scrapbook template layout that the photobook companies offer. Pro albums can cost anywhere from $500 to $5000 depending on the type of album, cover material, number of pages, hours of design work and revisions needed, and album size. Definitely ask your photographer to see physical samples of the albums that they offer so that you can see the quality first hand.
Hope this helps and good luck on your photographer search. Feel free to PM me links to photographers you are considering and I will give you some feedback on the quality and consistency of their work.
ciao.
Hey there! I know exactly what you're going through. My FI and I are paying for everything ourselves and paying $2000 for pictures seems a bit ridiculous. We ended up finding a girl that just graduated from photography school. She did a free engagement session for us so we could see her style of work. We love her! Also, since she is so new she is doing our entire wedding for only $250. We have a contract that includes all the images and making a photo book is pretty easy on snapfish. Her name is Renee Ihm. I would highly recommend her. Check her out. Our photos are under the engagement photos section. Her website is all black and white but her color pictures are fantastic. http://reneeihm.com/
I used Kristen Wynn Photography in Florida for my wedding this past year. She's definitely affordable but books up fast from the looks of her facebook page. I had a wednesday wedding so she was available.
I didn't negotiate but some people do. I just looked at photographers I could already afford for the packages I wanted and I paid less than $2000. I didn't do any shot lists I just let her do what she wanted. I didn't do my album yet but I am planning to after the holidays. I hope that answers your questions.
How much do you want to spend? Im looking at photographers for our wedding right now too. If I see anything in your budget ill send you the links :)
Sarah Mac Photography - hands down. We just used them last night and I know our photos will be fantastic. Check out their blog too!! SUPER affordable and *awesome*.
I agree with @atomic. Professional wedding photography can cost you anywhere between $1,000 to $10,000+. There is one in our area that charges close to $15k!
Most photographers are willing to work with you if you want to negotiate. Ask to see packages or have a custom package made for you that fits your budget. Know what is most important to you and be ready to sacrifice to lower your pricing. Some examples of areas you may be able to save in:
Meet with your photographer before your wedding. A professional will learn your style and talk you through your day. It doesn't hurt to give your wedding photographer a small list of must have photographs and artistic suggestions. Then let them have creative liberty.
Albums can cost anywhere from $300 to $1,000+. If your package doesn't come with one, see if your photographer can create one after you've had some time to save up after the wedding. Also look to see if they can make an album within your budget. There are many options out there. Albums can differ in size, material, pages, etc.
If you need more help. I'd love to answer any more of your questions! I am quite familiar with Tampa as well.

Hello fellow bees :)
My first post ever, how exciting!!
I'm getting married next December in Sarasota and am stressing about finding a photographer. I've been looking around and I see either the 'point and shoot' type or the 'ridiculously expensive' type. We are paying for the wedding ourselves and have a TIGHT budget. I'm looking for recommendations on photographers in the Tampa Bay/ Sarasota area that are affordable. If you know of anyone pleeease do share!
Did you negotiate on pricing? What is a good price for a photographer? What type of package is the standard?
Did you tell them what romantic or edgy pictures you wanted or did they have it all thought out?
Did you get an album made by the photographer? If so, how much did it cost?
Any help you can offer will help me sleep better at night ;) THANK YOU!
