I ordered a dress last weekend at David’s Bridal. It’s an Oleg Cassini and I liked the way it looked in the picture. The lace details and illusion neckline are gorgeous. But, I was not able to try it on. I’m a size 20, and this dress is Special Order only. While I do like that I will have the arm coverage, I am worried that this dress will look to matronly on me. The dress will not come in until January so I will not be able to see it on me until then.
My worries have me looking at other dresses. DB said they would be happy to exchange for another style, since I was not able to try on the first dress (and they are both the same price). This is the one that catches my eye. However, I’m worried that the off-shoulder sleeves will just make my upper arms stand out more? I do love the neckline and the V-shaped back.
What do you think? Will the first dress make me look old? Should I exchange for the second dress? Am I driving myself crazy over nothing? 😛

BoilerBride101015: I actually think the second dress is more matronly looking. The full lace sleeve is more classic than that faux cap sleeve thing that’s popular right now. Kate Middleton and Grace Kelly both rocked a long lace sleeve, and they are definitely not matronly! I think you can youth it up by doing a modern hairstyle, modern makeup, and maybe a statement necklace.

First all the way! Super classy! Sleeves=equal matronly? No freaking way!!! I do love the 1st design all the way!!

Thanks ladies. It’s just so hard to tell since I havent been able to try it on! I was looking to Kate Middleton for some inspiration but she didn’t have the high neckline.

Why couldn’t you try on the dress in the store? Did they have any that were close to the size? I know our local David’s carries some plus sizes. Maybe you could find the dress at another David’s location closer to your size to try on? Or any bridal shop with plus sizes where you could try on a similar dress.
Personally I like the first one better.

The first one is gorgeous, but I tried on the second one and it would have been THE dress if it wasn’t outside of my budget, it was SO stunning and I thought the sleeves were really flattering.

BoilerBride101015: Yeah, 1st dress is definitely the best choice! It’s regal and elegant. The 2nd one is too matronly. It looks frumpy.

amberback: They carry plus sizes, but not any of the Oleg Cassini or Vera Wang gowns above a 12.
