Hello ladies, I am really panicking! After ordering what I thought was the dress of my dreams I am now worried that I actually picked the wrong style for my body. Its a dropped waiste gown and I am failry small 8.5stone and 5.6.tall so I thought it would be fine. Howver on reflection when looking at photos I just feel really wide.
From the side it looks fine but from the front its not looking good. Its a size 8(UK) and I am thinking the only thing I can do is loose half a stone (7pounds).
Is this just me or has this style of dress done this to anyone else? Do you think I should try and change it? It has not had any alterations yet. Advice much appreciated.

Is it too big? I had this same issue with my first dress, and now I’m trying to sell it actually.

Hm, can you have it altered so that it actually accentuates your waist? Right now, it looks a little “straight up and down”, which I think is visually enhanced by the fact that the end of the body is straight (not sure how to describe it… but the beading looks horizontal). If you feel very upset about it, and you can’t alter it, I would change to another style.

@howtobeawife: +1 Looks lovely! You’re being overly critical.

I think with this style of dress, you have to focus on your narrowest part: your waist. And your waist looks teeny to me. I don’t think you look wide at all. Add shoes, a veil, and an updo, and it will elongate you even more. But if you don’t feel beautiful in it, I’d try to change it.

I don’t think it makes you look wide at all.
I think the picture taken from the front is a bit of an optical illusion becasue your right arm is closer to your body.
You are also seeing the reflection from the mirror so it appears there is less space between the dress at the hip and your arm.

@eocenia: Thanks for the tips – I have paid in full and am wondering if they will let me do that, will investigate.

I think that after it is altered correctly it should be okay, but that is actually why I decided not to order a dress that was similar to that. I couldn’t tell if it was because of the dress or just because it was too big, but see what the alterations department can do to ease your mind.

I see what you are talking about where it doesnt make an hourglass shape, but I think that alterations should be able to fix that. The dress is beautiful and looks amazing on you!

I think the dress looks lovely. And i think alterations will help a lot. Don’t stress or go the crash diet route. You’ll look beautiful and your photog will know how to pose you so you look your best!

I think it is so beautiful on you! The full skirt naturally tends to draw the eye down and out, which just makes your waist look even smaller:)

I think you look amazing in the dress and not wide at all!
