This afternoon I text my mom “Don’t forget about the dress appt tomorrow at 4” At 10:30pm tonight I was excused from work early due to the fact that the building complex my dress shop is in was burning!!! Its been burning for more than 5 hours now and was caused from a bar fire… nothing has been confirmed … statements are being made “The whold building is a loss” I’ve been crying for hours.. completely distraut.. why is this happening to me!
I am so in love with my dress.. it’s a mori lee 4524- ivory size 12 I believe, being taken in bc I lost 20 lbs… I had purchased a new belt…. had 2 veils… one was a La Sposa lace cathedral length ivory veil in which we got for 50% off bc it was discontinued at the bridal shop.
All these items were at the shop waiting for my arrival tomorrow at 4pm.. I’m in such shock… disbelief… one second praying that maybe a miracle will happen and that the shop wasn’t harmed.. maybe they had it in a fireproof room? maybe the seamstress had taken it home over the weekend.. ?? I’m just holding onto any ounce of hope since it’s Sunday night and we can’t find anything out till tomorrow… we do know the street is closed and stated to “not reopen soon.” My wedding is in 20 DAYS! JUNE 30TH 2012.
I REFUSE to choose another dress… dresses have to be ordered anyway and I refuse to choose one that’s my size just to have a dress.. this is so not FAIR.. I can’t believe this is happening to me……….
Tomorrow I will find out hopefully what is going on so I can start trying to replace everything and get alterations in- all in the next 20 days. We have a guest list of approx. 300 ppl and have had so many obstacles recently I’m just at the end of my rope… help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope they were in a fire safe vault or at the VERY minimum the shop had insurance to cover this!!!!!!!!

I’m so sorry for you! Do you have wedding insurance? If so, they should be able to help you out with. The shop should have been insured too, so try and get in contact with them as soon as poss. I hope everything works out OK xxx

THis article says they are only worried about smoke and water damage… I hope they had your dress in a safe or something! Hoping for a happy update tomorrow!

As of now I know the shop is still standing, water was 2 feet in basement, wedding dresses for upcoming brides were in the basement and believed to be saved from water damage as most were on tables or hung up. There is smoke damage apparently and right now they are pulling dresses out and sending them to a restoration company in Livonia. I’m waiting to hear from them and my mom and I driving up there at 4. They are supposed to set up a temporary location across the street and have a temporary phone line in the next 24-48 hours.

@Cady: That seems an awfully dismissive response. If the dress shop where your dress was being held burnt down with the dress inside 20 days before your wedding do you really think you wouldn’t stress out about it?!?!
OP, I am so sorry this happened! I really hope your dress is okay and if there is any damage that it can be fixed promptly 🙁
