- Wedding: January 2009
I’m the MOH in my best friend’s wedding in just over a week. I’m feeling ok about my speech but would love some feedback from the beautiful minds that post on the boards! You are all so creative so thank you in advance for your help.
I replaced the bride and grooms names with just bride and groom
Hello, for those who don’t know me, I’m XXXX and I have the privilege to be here today as “BRIDE’S” Maid of Honour.
As you all know Bride has many amazing qualities. She’s not just another pretty face (which, it cannot be said enough how beautiful you look today) but she’s got the brains to match – just check out her not 1 but 2 degrees! You’d know she is organized – looking around at this amazing day she created you can tell that. And you’d know she is determined – like how not matter how cold, drunk and tired she is, so won’t quit until she finally gets that slice of pizza after the bar!
But mostly importantly – she is my best friend!
I guess you never really know when you will meet your best friend. For us, it was during a visit back here (out east) where some friends through me a birthday party. We rented a limo, went downtown and overall had a great time. Ryan – Yes Ryan you were the catalyst in this friendship- had actually been spending his summer with Courtney and Darrell and invited them to join us in the limo and the celebrations. I remember thinking – who are these people, and why would they be at my birthday? Oh well, they seem nice enough but I probably won’t really see them much again. We’ll don’t I stand corrected!
That day was about 9 years ago, that’s nearly a decade and oh boy do Bride and I have some good stories! BUT Given the audience here today of parents, grandparents and well maybe even Groom, I think I will keep most of those to myself. (Bride you know which one I’m talking about) I will say this though, one of my favorite things about a night with Bride, is she is always the first to start to get the DANCE party started! You the night is going to get good when she starts doing her patented Bride shuffle. (then do an imitation of her little dance)
Outside of all the shenanigans Courtney has always been a true friend. She introduced me to body pump (it’s a class at the gym) and David’s tea, two things I can safely say I am now obsessed with. But I would have to say our strongest bond was our love of all things “planning” .
Through the course of our friendship we have gone from planning nights out, to weekend getaways, to graduation vacays and now bachelorettes and weddings. I can’t wait to stand here again in 50 years to be adding anniversary celebrations to that list for you and Groom.
So there’s another reason why I feel so special to be standing here today….It’s not everyday that the MOH can say that she knows the groom almost as well as she knows the bride, and that that most of my favorite memories involve both of you.
Groom, you were there for all the crazy games nights, our late night fry and ice-cream runs, our Alehouse sing-a-long nights, our Cuba reunions, our drives across the country and now I have both of you only a short walk from my front door.
Bride and Groom, are such a great balance for each other. What Bride lacks in late night wakefulness, Groom more than makes up for. We all know Graham is at his most profound and poetic after 2am and a 24 of Keith’s.
You are two people who mean the world to me and I can’t think of a more perfect couple.
Ok, so as Matron of Honour (yes, yes that means OLD married woman, which is why I lied and said maid before) it is tradition for me to offer some words of advice on marriage.
I will say this: You don’t need it!
(raise my glass)
Because when I look at you, my best friend and the man of her dreams, I already know you have everything you will ever need, because you have each other.
