- Wedding: June 2014 - British Columbia
Although summers are short, the mosquites are ruthless vampires.
Generally, I’m not too bothered by mosquitoes. However, when FI and I went to our venue earlier in June, mosquitoes were in swarms while we were hiking around the marsh! Our poor dog was trying to hunt the mosquitoes with her jaw. We both had short-range radio. So, I ran as fast as I could! (Great way to train for running, by the way!)
Since we are planning on having an outdoor ceremony, I’m trying to look into repellant alternatives. I was told that lavender infused oil would work, but I’m not sure if it would work on all mosquito breeds?
Summer’s coming to an end soon. I am willing to try any bug repellant alternatives before fall hits. If it works, I might get extra bottles for guests next year. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have the perfect solution! It’s called California Baby…It’s an all natural bug spray for kids (adults, too!), no harsh chemicals, no chemical smell (it smells quite lovely actually!). I used it the other night at a family party and it worked great!

As someone who has had severe allergic reactions to insect bites I feel your pain.
I use Avon’s “Skin So Soft” line – body/bath oil, lotion and also the insect repellant wipes, and they work very well and smell pretty good – more like bath products than a typical bug spray smell.
Can your venue spray the area with something like “Yard Guard” the day of your wedding to help cut down on the mosquitoes? Our wedding was held outdoors and we used torches with citronella oil, which helped the bug problem, too.

Seriously. I coated myself in it for our outdoor rehearsal and bbq. People actually kept complimenting me on how good I smelled. It’s not greasy. And I didn’t get a single bug bite.
