@GrannyPantiesRock:  Im commenting to follow. I also cant sleep without some type of sleep aid (typically tylonol PM.. which i think would bring my temp down) and wake up a few times in the night.

No, don’t use the lowest. You need to use your actual BBT from when you wake up. I don’t see a big difference if I’m under 3 hours of sleep, others do see a big difference. I would try to set your regular alarm for a bit before you start waking up and see if it makes a big difference. I find that my temp fluxuated the most by time so it was really important for me to put it in the half an hour each way time spot.

It doesn’t matter that you’re hot at night, if you ovulate, you’ll get a bit warmer afterward. It’s all about the pattern.

@graygodess20:  I would sometimes take melatonin and would see a bit of a difference, but it wouldn’t be huge. I’d be more worried about daily use, do you really take it every day and does your doctor know?

@GrannyPantiesRock:  BBT is a resting temp. You can’t take it if you’ve been awake or moving around in any way or it’ll be inaccurate. How long to you sleep in between these periods of waking? You need a minimum of 3 hours (4 is better) to have accurate temps. As long as your getting this amount before temping they should be okay.

Often I wake up many times at night. Personally, as long as I’ve had 3 hours and it’s after 4 a.m. my temps are fine (I go to bed at midnight usually). I temp whenever I wake up and have had at least 3-4 hours of solid sleep, in case I don’t get a full 3 hours later. I’ve been temping awhile and I find that my temps are accurate enough to clearly see my O if I do this, though they’re more clear if I get 4 hours minimum. I always note on my chart of each time I took my temp and how long I slept before taking it in the notes section of Fertility Friend.

I would suggest temping when you wake after at least 3 hours, and keeping track for awhile, getting to know how your body works. You should be able to see some sort of pattern after awhile. Maybe you always wake up at a certain time and can use the temps from this? Or maybe some other pattern is visible? Then you can decide which temps are accurate for your chart. Keep in mind that it’s the big picture, not each particular temp that matter.

@graygodess20:  Like I said, I think it would totally just depend. I definitely get up at least once a night, but I basically stumble to the bathroom half asleep. It never made a difference in mine – OR it was just the normal and I still saw a pattern. I think some of the other charter bees do see a big difference if it’s less than 3 hours. I would say to give it a go and just see how your chart looks, I would think you’d have your answer by the end of the first cycle and you could adjust accordingly.

But do you usually wake up the first time around the same time? (I’m pretty sure I go to the bathroom around the same time every day, but I don’t know if I’m a weirdo).

@Mrs.LemonDrop:  I wake up at all different times. Like if DH goes into work for 10, ill go to bed when he leaves… fall asleep around 12-1. up at maybe 230-300.  then maybe around 5 b/c the dogs will want to go out, then get back in bed until he gets home between 6-7. Its so messed up.

Now if i take a sleep aid.. ill fall asleep quicker, and stay asleep until the dogs need to go out or until dh gets home.
