Check out Ann Taylor, J Crew and Nordstroms.
You can search my color and style and I'm sure you'll find something to suit your taste!
I recommend ordering them yourself and then sending them to the girls. If someone forgets to order their's and all of sudden it is out of stock you could be in trouble.
I went with the Ann Taylor option - they have amazing sales, so keep checking back for better prices (as does J Crew)
good luck!
my situation exactly! 5 bridesmaids in 4 different states, and i was looking for a plum/eggplant color (not so easy to find). i loved the ann taylor and j. crew dresses, but they didn't carry the right sort of deep purple color i wanted. i didn't want anything too bridesmaidy, but formal enough for our church wedding... basically the same boat!
we ended up going with aria (www.ariadress.com). their aubergine color is gorgeous, and each girl could get a style she's comfortable with (between the 5 of them there are 4 different styles). very classic designs.
price was higher than idea ($195) but not awful, and i paid for shipping and any extra fees.
i would have loved to go the department store route, but there was no 1 style that would work on all the girls (ranging from size 2 to size 16, most with decent sized busts).
hope that helps!
one other plug for aria-- the 'album' section on their website shoes their dresses on REAL people! very helpful to see!
i'm going with jim hjelm's shorter dresses. they look more like cocktail dresses than bridesmaids dresses (imo). i'm letting them pick which style they want (i picked the color and fabric). we're getting them from netbride and they're in the $150 range.
I went the JCrew route and used the power of the internet and found discount codes that saved all my girls $50 and gave them free shipping too! So the dresses ended up being $200 but each one was very happy with not wearing a dress that screamed out "I'm a BM!"
I highly recommend the Ann Taylor route. It was so easy to just tell my bridesmaids to pick any dress in X color from the site. They don't look TOO bridesmaid-y either -- hopefully they'll be able to wear it again.
My favorite is edenbridals dot com. Most of their dresses are definitely wearable again and dont look to bridesmaidyish (is that a word) Hope this helps!!
My bridesmaid dresses are from le Chateau. They cost $99 and are beautiful and they are definitely reusable. We found dresses there that we had previously seen at bridal stores for $300 it was definitely cost effective and my girls love their dresses.
I am having my bridesmaids wear the 'honest purple' line from Target; whatever style they want. Very cheap, can return to store if one size doesn't fit, and the fabrics are really nice!

i am trying to find dresses for my bridesmaids. i don't want anything that's too bridesmaidy and want them to be able to wear them again. i'm looking for a dress in a merlot/wine/plum color, and i don't want to spend too much money on them. another issue is that everyone lives in a different city, so i think maybe something onlie might be easiest.
do you have any recommendations of places to look? online or a store.
