Hi fellow Philadelphia area brides.
I’m in a bit of a dilemna. I am searching for a photographer who is fantastic (as we all are) and also great at capturing vibrant, colorful photos! It’s important too that he/she is unobtrusive. I don’t want to work with a company because I don’t want to run the risk of the person I think I hire getting swapped out the day of.
I have found a photographer who I really like. I met with 6 and they were all great but nothing that wowed me until meeting this guy and seeing his work. He seemed super personable and his work was exactly what we were hoping for. Better yet, he met our budget, so I didn’t have to worry about not being able to afford him….problem is, he takes a day or two to respond to emails. All the other photogs would get back in a few hours, but this guy can be days.
I emailed him that I wanted to hire him and it took 2 days for him to say great! Then I responded with, what are the next steps, could you send over the contract….and nothing!! My fiance even followed up by leaving a voicemail, no luck.
I’m not sure if I should move on at this point. By no means would I consider myself high maintenance but you think if a client told you she wants to hire you, you’d be a little more responsive. I’m worried this will be an issue going forward even if he does get back to me. What are your thoughts?
In the meantime, I’m looking for another option because I’m not sure how I feel about his lack of response/slow response time.
Any suggestions? My budget for the following is $4000:
-10×13 or 12×12 album
-Engagement session & photo rights
-Rights to all photos on disc
Any help would be awesome!!!

My photographer may take a few days to respond to me, and that doesn’t bother me much. They have a family and they shoot a lot of weddings this time of year.
Anyway, I’ll suggest my photographer, Miguel and Tracey of Diamond Street Photography.
The other one I would suggest is Tiffany Atlas. She’s a really nice woman and she used to do fashion photography. We didn’t go with her in the end, but would have if Miguel weren’t in the picture.
I can only speak for the photographers I’ve actually either corresponded with or met with in person. You really can’t go wrong with either photographer. I know Tiffany typically has a second shooter, but I’d take that up with her if you do choose to contact her. Miguel and Tracey always come as a team.
As for photo rights, I think both of them do that. It’s been a while since I looked at our contract.

During wedding season 48 hours is not an abnormal response time.

@megzzylady: There is nothing wrong with a 48 hour response time during wedding season. Just means he is busy and the other photographers aren’t as busy. What concerns me is the pricing – for a major metro area, with all of that included, I would be careful to check them out thoroughly and make sure they are experienced, insured, working with pro-equipment, etc. that rate is not sustainable for a tax-paying business in Philly for everything it includes so please be mindful of that and ask lots of questions in your search.

@mariematt: Thanks! Makes me feel better about the 48 hours thing. I guess being newly engaged, I’m just excited to get these things booked. We’re exploring other options in the meantime.
As far as his price, it’s his own company and he does the wedding photography on the weekends. I think his prices are pretty fair and in line with what I’ve been quoted. I’ve also talked directly with 3 of his former clients who gave good reviews….I guess my concern was the response!
Thanks so much for your answers.

Yay! Another July 2014 bride from PA! There’s a few in the Lehigh Valley you can try. My photographer might be booked on that date. However, I think my runner-up (Jim Heine) is available and is in your price range for what you need.
