I am considering orchids for my main flower. Hhowever, to keep costs down, is it ok to have orchids as my flower only in my bouquet and my hair and then have carnations for the bridesmaids bouquets and centerpieces?? Should flowers be consistent throughout? I’m not sure about this stuff and if those 2 flowers will clash.

I think colors should be consistent! But I am not a traditionalist.

@adw2c: Well the wedding will be black, white and green. I was thinking of a pinkish-purple orchid in my hair and my bouquet, or maybe just one or the other, could also be white but some bright color aside from green i think would be fun! And then white carnation bouquets for bridesmaids and centerpieces different sized vases with cut up limes and white carnations. It all looks and sounds nice in my head.

I think this is a great idea and I believe many brides do this in order to keep floral costs down. I feel that if you (the bride) has an orchid bouquet then the bridesmaids’ bouquets should be consistent with each other (i.e. all carnations and all the same color). I was the Maid/Matron of Honor a couple months ago and did the floral for my bride. We did a mixed bouquet in burnt orange for her (dahlias, roses, orchids, garden roses, lilies, etc.) and her 4 bms had burnt orange bouquets made up entirely of roses.
I love the idea of pinkish/purple orchids for your hair and bouquet and the bms could have white carnation bouquets. And the centerpieces sound great! Good luck!
