Most Maggie gowns have a corset back. Given that you say that you have the measurements as listed on the website and your gown most likely has either a corset back or interior corset, you will probably be wearing some sort of spanx/long line bra to smooth things out (doesn't everyone? lol) I have a feeling it will fit you like a dream.
Do make sure though that if you have any problems you take it to a good seamstress.
@Penguingal06: Thank you! Yes, it has an inner corset! One of the beautiful things about those gowns right? lol The shop where I bought my dress does free alterations so I'm hoping they won't need to do anything but take in the bust and hem the length.
It sounds like you made the right choice in ordering the 16, so I wouldn't worry! The corset will help, but your seamstress will be able to take in the bust if needed! Maybe you will get lucky and only need the hem done! You will look beautiful once it has been properly fitted, so try not to stress about it too much! We want pictures when you get your dress!
It will be fine don't worry. Like others have said the corset back makes things a lot easier.
I love my maggie sottero dress. Fits and feels beautiful. Makes me feel like a million bucks!!!
OOPs and it doesnt have a built in corest that sucks you right in!
Ok so I was in between a 16 and an 18 so I bught the 16. We did have to move the panel a little bit but it was no big deal. The dress fit me perfectly and I am a street size 16. You will be fine and it will fit nicely, and most Maggie dresses are too big in the bust for most people. You cna have it taken in there if you need to. For me, I just needed that and a hem, bustle, and move the panel of the corset. Good luck and stop worrying!
@DanielleZara: Thanks you have definitely eased my mind a lot! Only my dress has an inner corset and it zips over that so I was worried it wouldn't zip up but since they seem too big in the bust, I think it'll be good!
@Mrs.MedinaJr: Wow you look AMAZING In that dress. I love your curves in it You look gorgeous!
@dance: Thanks! And I will definitely post pictures!
Thanks to everyone for the replies, you have all made me feel so much better. And now that I found out that my dress won't be in until the WEEK BEFORE the wedding, I am using this as more time to lose weight instead of freaking out which is what I really want to do.
I'm so glad you made this post. I'm currently a street size 16, though I'm trying to lose weight. When they measured me though they said I was in between the 16/18.. probably a little closer to the 18. I didn't want to pay the extra $100, though, so I ordered the 16. I've only lost 10lbs so far though (though I feel like I am tighter.. I really should've done measurements too and not just relied on the scale...) and I'm extremely nervous about how the dress will fit. It should be in sometime in October. Yipes! This post makes me think it might just be OK, though.
Crossing my fingers here for both of us! :)
@Mrs.MedinaJr: DAMN girl!!! You ROCK those curves!! Great choice!! It looks amazing on you!
@missbiscuit: Hopefully we will both be pleasantly surprised! Mine will be here this month too (it better or I won't have a dress at all!) If yours comes in first update! And I will do the same! lol
You got it, sista! Can't wait to hear how it turns out for you. I'll let you know about mine.. whenever the time comes! :)
I have a feeling that with those 15 pounds lost, the 16 might actually be a little loose on you! But the corset could very well fix that, so really, don't worry - it will be perfect!
I was a street size 14/16 when I purchased a floor sample Maggie in size 14. It was a little tight in the hips, but I got it on, so Maggies are pretty true to size. I've lost close to 10 pounds and have seven more weeks to go, so I'm hoping it will fit like a glove by then (though I do expect a few alterations). Good luck!
I hope it fits the way you want! I want a Maggie dress and I LOVE reading about plus size brides who have worn or will wear her dresses!
MrsMedinaJr- You have the cutest shape!
I was between a 16-18 as well and had the same issue. I ordered a 16 and although its a little tight in the hip area it fits. They are pretty damn forgiving, so I don't think there is a need to worry.
Thanks, Ladies! Your replies have been so helpful. I feel so much better and i am continuing to eat right and exercise so hopefully it will be too big! lol
Happy to report that my dress came in and was on the big side!! YAY!! It zipped right up and with the corset tied as tight as I could it pretty much fit perfect except it is way big at the top. Mind you I am a 36 DD so I was surprised at that. So they only have to take in the bust and it fits perfect thanks to the inner corset. I am so happy to not be stressing over this anymore! I hope this helps anyone else who may be worried. I ordered the 16 and am pretty much a street size 14 since the weight loss so they really do seem to fit true to size. What a relief! :-)
I'm a size 18, ans honestly, I felt beautiful in every Maggie gown I tried on. Here are just three taht i took pictures of:
First, Adelaide....
Then, AD330 (at least I think that's what it's called)....
(I edited this one because I was making a weird face here)
And finally, my chosen gown, Vienna!
@thelovecats: so happy to hear things turned out well! I got the call that my dress came in today. Will go to try it on on Sunday. Keeping my fingers crossed....!!!!
@missbiscuit: AWESOME!! YAY! I wish I had pictures, but I was by myself when I went to the seamstress and in a huge hurry.
@CellaDee: 18?! Judging by those photos, you must've meant size 8!! You look great in all of those gowns, and you look way thinner than I do. Maybe because I'm only 5'3"? lol Seriously you have a great figure. I love the one you chose, but I am partial to lace!
It fit! And they said if I lose any more in my hips I might have to get it taken in, even! Woohoo! :) I'll post pictures when my fiance isn't sitting right next to me lol.
Just thought I would share, in case someone else comes into this thread down the line worried like we were... it fit great! In fact, like I said above they said it may have to be taken in a bit at the hips, especially if I lose more weight (which I plan to). I'm glad I got the 16 and not the 18, now! My only lingering self confidence worry is about my arms/back fat.. but I'm hoping that a few more months of exercise will help ease those. But, regardless, it does FIT and looks good!
@missbiscuit: You look AMAZING!!! YAY!! It looks perfect. That dress is sooo flattering. I love it.
WOW YOU look AMAZING!!!! truly beautiful!
And thank you to all the ladies =)
Yay! So glad to see a happy ending! I was worried much like you! I ordered the same size as you (even though they suggested I order one up) and dropped weight before the wedding. I was so worried waiting that it could be too small or too big...it was perfect though and I prob could have gotten away with a size smaller since the corset was tied nearly as tight as it could go.
@missbiscuit: Seriously amazing!!! You are rockin' that dress!
Thanks everyone!! I'm super excited about it! And SO relieved!!! :) I can't wait to share pictures from the wedding when I'm all done up and she's been altered to hit every curve properly!
@thelovecats: Thanks again for starting this thread! It gave this worried bride a place to come vent when the bridal-crazies got to me! :)
@missbiscuit: Oh you are so welcome! Everyone's replies really eased my mind too. I was stuck in the wedding dress world where everyone has to order 3 sizes up because they are made small. I went with measurements and got really nervous. I am so glad that one bridal gown company makes the gowns in actual street size and not crazy bridal world size anyway! lol I can't wait to see your wedding pics. You are gonna look fantastic. Mine is only 10 days away, so I will definitely share with you when I can. I'm so excited.
@thelovecats: (Didn't see your reply until just now!)
Aww, thanks; I wish I were a size 8! (Honestly, you just totally made my day, lol.
All of the Maggies that I tried on made me feel great. I don't know when I decided this, but I've known for a long time that I wanted my wedding gown to be a Maggie Sottero. I tried on several dresses at David's Bridal, too, though, and hated almost every one I saw. What I loved about Maggie's dresses, though, is that in all of those pictures, I wasn't wearing any shapewear at all. It was just me, and they still looked great!
I did have a hard time choosing between Adelaide and Vienna, but I'm very happy with my decision. The Vienna cost almost twice what the Adelaide did, but what can I say? It was "the one!" I love lace, too. :)
@missbiscuit: PS: YOU LOOK AMAZING!! I'm so glad that you found that dress! Congratulations! :D

How do they fit? I know it's a little late for me to be worried about this, since my dress should be in any day, but I can't help but freak out a bit. I was a 14/16 street size when I tried on my dress (the Catarina) and that was in July. The sample was a 12 and obviously didn't fit but I have also lost 15 pounds and several inches from my bust, waist and hips from doing P90X. I am in my 10th week of the workout and I ordered a 16 dress because I already paid a rush order fee and didn't want to pay the plus size fee just to get an 18. My measurements are exactly the measurements from the size chart for 16 except my bust has gotten way smaller (isn't that always the first to go? lol) Am I a complete bonehead? Do you think the 16 will fit? I'm nervous that even though I "fit" the measurements it will not be true to size. I know there is nothing I can do about it, but I was hoping to get some input from real brides.
