I'm not using them, but I believe Dream it Events does DOC work for about $700...a little over your budget, but after much searching, they are the cheapest I found.
I just gave this advice to another poster, but it might help you as well.
1. Call some local planners and tell them your amount and see if they will negotiate.
2. Place an ad on Craigslist under Gigs>Events. Give your date, amount and requirements. You may get a lot of responses, just be sure to interview and talk with the candidates. Ask for resumes or references.
3. See if any of the local colleges who have event planning/management classes could refer students.
I hope this helps

Thanks! Our venue provides a coordinator with the rental, but it is a volunteer group and it was made very clear that they are there not to coordinate the event, but to manage the property.
I'll check on Craigs List as well.
Thanks for the tips!
<pre style="white-space: -moz-pre-wrap">Our Best Friend's wedding is based out of the Bay Area and they do great work. Natalia, one of the coordinators, used to work in my office and she is great. Very organized and has a great eye for detail. I have helped her with a few weddings and have always seen her handle everything that is thrown her way. I am not sure about prices but I think she is fairly reasonable. http://ourbestfriendswedding.com

We're just under 5 months out and I'm quickly realizing that on the big day, I'm going to need some help. There are a couple of family members that could likely be roped into it, but after reading the wiki and some other posts about Day of Coordinators, I'm talking myself into one.
The problem is that I'm in the Bay Area and already over budget. Grrr! Any recommendations for a Bay Area DOC that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? The actual event will take place in the North Bay (Ross, CA) in late September. I've already contacted Michelle of Elegant Events in Sacramento (a WeddingBee recommendation), but her quote was $1100. *sigh* Am I crazy to believe I can get some help for $500 or less?
Any hive help would be greatly appreciated!
