We have all our male cousins as ushers.   We both grew up in different parts of the country and our cousins grew up nearby so we decided to get a box of candy that is a signature of my hometown (and the place the wedding is held) for his cousins, and a box of candy that is signature of his hometown (and where fiance and I are currently living) for my cousins.  I always find it fun to try a local food- particularly because you can’t get either candies anywhere else.  We are doing bigger gifts for the groomsmen, but can’t afford the same for the ushers.  We are allowing the ushers to wear suits that they already have, while the groomsmen are shelling out cash for rentals, so there is really no costs for the ushers beyond that of a normal guest.  I have honorary bridesmaids, who would have been bridesmaid if my fiance had more close friends, and we will probably do the candy idea for them too.  I would definitely spend about the same on all the ushers, even though two of them were considerations for groomsmen.  If not, you are saying you appreciate their service as ushers more than the other ushers, which isn’t really right either.
