My dress was like at least 4+ sizes to big! The top had to have a bunch off of it, and I had to have it taken in a lot and shortened a bunch! I liked it though because then it fit me perfectly, like it was made for my body, which it kind of was!

Most dresses do need to be altered in order to fit properly.  I’ve read a couple of stories about stores that order sizes that are too large in order to increase the price of already expensive alterations!  The books I’ve read suggest that brides ask to see the sizing guide for the dress they are order and make sure that they are getting the proper size.

This is why my dress is custom fit to my body, because my bottom half is bigger than my top. So the top half will be made a size smaller than the bottom half.  The only alterations that I should need are hem and bustle.  Little in the bust but other than that everything should fit.

Bridal salons have to order the gowns to fit your biggest measureemnt so if your hip measures to a size 10 but your bust is a size 4 they have to order the size 10. The bridal salon should have explained all of this before they placed an order for you though, if they didn’t there might be something shady going on. Do they require you to get your alterations done through them?

Yeah, my “measurements” for the chest were 38.5 at the store.. I’ve been a 36 probably since like middle school.. I thought it was strange, but thought well, whatever, that’s what I measured at, maybe I’ve gained weight in that area so the band size is bigger.  I went ahead & ordered a 38C long line bra online, and when I got it last week it was way too big.. There’s absolutely no way I could be a 38.5, so idk if the lady messed up the measurements or what.

I was actually shown the measurements for my dress, and my chest & waist measurements were the exact measurements for the size I ordered, but my dress is way too big on top.  I’m not sure how that works, since supposedly my hip measurement was 5 inches too big for the size I was ordering, and should have been the next size up. Well, I just got it the other day, and sure enough, it was way too big in the chest (I can pull the dress down past my boobs) but it fits in the hips.  So, according to the measurements they took, the dress should have fit perfect in the chest and waist, and been far too small in the hips.  I’m getting it taken in, but I think almost every bride has to have SOME alteration done, whether it be taking it in, hemming, etc…  Unfortunately costs more $$ but I think it’s more uncommon NOT to need alterations!
