Men’s Warehouse does custom suits! We live in Hawaii and my FI’s groomsmen are on the mainland, so they are unable to go suit shopping together (aww).

My fiance is big and tall (6’7″/300+), so he’s going to get a suit custom tailored at our location in Honolulu. Men’s Warehouse will send the specifications of the suit we want the guys to buy to the locations where his other two groomsmen are! It’s perfect! They all get the same suit and it’s completely convenient!

EDIT: I’m sure they’ll have his size. My FI always gets his suits there and they’re the only ones that have his jacket size readily available with shirts that fit his neck.

My FI (and his 3 brothers/groomsmen) are all 6’1 – 6’4.  They aren’t small guys and they’re broad shouldered.  They’ve had no problems renting a tux.  The place we’re likely renting from will mix and match tops and bottoms for size.  I’m surprised that you can’t find a place that will do that.  So weird!

Vera Wang and Calvin Klein both do a beautiful grey tux. Any chance you can find retailers in your area that carry either brand?

You could try an online place that custom makes it to his measurements. I debated having DH do that as he’s an odd size too (giant shoulders and neck but not tall enough to be in the “big and tall” category). I’ve seen pretty good reviews for Indochino and Black Lapel.

We ended up renting the grey Vera tuxes and bought the guy’s ties and such since we didn’t like accessories they offered.

CelticBeachBride: You can get a MtM suit for much less than $1800.  If he truly needs a bespoke suit (some people do) then you are just out of luck; they’re expensive.  Grey Tuxedos are basically only rental gear, so you will have a terrible time finding one.  If you were to look for midnight blue, or black, you would be doing much better.  I would try Brooks Brothers – if they can’t help, they will probably have an idea of where to send you.

If you think Made to Measure can work, shop around to local tailors.  As to online MtM options, the one I’ve heard good reviews of is The Black Lapel.  All of the others I’ve heard nothing but bad reviews.

Do all of the groomsmen own a suit of some kind?  Also, suits can be rented.  TheBlackTux.com has a charcoal suit that can be rented, and mst places that rent Tuxedos will also rent suits.

CelticBeachBride: Can you do custom, like Indochino or similar? That’s where we got FI’s suit. What about getting one made on a trip to Asia? Or if you’re in SF, there’s a guy from Asia who comes 2x / year to measure all his clients for custom suiting.

CelticBeachBride:  Yes I totally understood all that.  You should determine if MTM is an option for him.  It’s a pretty extreme case that requires a true bespoke pattern.  You can get a MTM for under $1000.  If you have to go bespoke, and therefre end up getting a suit, the groomsmen could rent, or you could simply ask them to wear a dark suit – which they can choose to rent, buy, or wear what they have.  The rental reccomendation was if you want to have the groomsmen rent a suit, to save them money.  I would still suggest, if you go the suit route, to just say ‘dark suit’ or ‘grey suit’ or whatever.  Then they can spend whatever they want to, renting or buying.

CelticBeachBride: Yeah, sorry I wasn’t more helpful. We go to Asia for work or whatnot 1x / year, so it’s just something we tack on to that trip. Good luck in finding a suit!
