SO and I are looking at engagement rings and have decided to go with Brian Gavin Diamonds. The problem is, i can’t have my ‘dream ring’ because we simply do not have the money so instead i have to decided what i am willing to sacrifice – the halo setting or the size of the stone.
My options are :
1. 0.8ct stone in a halo setting (vs2, H colour)
2. 1.1ct solitaire, I colour vs2
and i have no idea what to choose!!
Please share your opinions, experiences (and pictures of your rings are always welcome!)
Oh, for reference my ring size is 4.5

I would get the solitaire… if it were between the two, well… I dunno, I like the bigger diamond, and it’s such a clean classic look. There’s more freedom to be creative with your wedding band when you have a solitaire too. So many different rings can look good with it

@wannabebee: I went with a halo setting and I’m so in love with how it looks. Still the silhouette of a classic solitare engagement ring, but way more bling IMO. 🙂 I stare at it all day long

@wannabebee: I would pick the higer quality smaller stone and skip the halo if it makes your stone look yellow at all

I really prefer solitaires for an engagement ring. Halos are amazing and blingy and I want one for a right hand ring but they just don’t feel right for engagement rings to me personally. As another PP mentioned, you have tend more freedom with solitaires when it comes to the wedding band. If you’re looking to up the bling factor there are a lot of sparkly bands that match every style.

My husband (fiance at the time) bought me a Brian Gavin solitaire engagement ring and I am to this day in love with it. We also more recently purchased our wedding bands from him.
One thing I would mention is that his signature cut is beautiful. The ring sparkles like crazy. I get so many comments. 🙂

Personally, I like the look of a small halo (I’m not a fan of large halos or double, triple, however many halos). I have a single halo and its pretty small. I think it adds a nice look and something extra and interesting to the stone.

I would get the larger solitaire personally, but either will be beautiful!

I say get the bigger center stone. You can always change the setting in the future

it depends if you want something simple or a ring with more detail

I vote halo! My halo is subtle and gives the look of a solitaire but the bling of a halo! 🙂
I’m a size 5 finger with a 0.48 ct G, VS1, GIA triple ex RB center stone and a total carat weight of 0.99 cts.

I would choose something in the middle… a solitare but with as good stats as possible, so the .8 and bump the color up to a G, since the setting will probably be more affordable than a solitare setting.

Choose the solitare, but look at the diamonds in person before you decide. you never know which one will jump out at you.

People who like halos will say halo and people who like solitaires will tell you solitaire. The stone in the halo is better quality, so I’d go with that. I’d choose a halo anyway because that’s what I have and love.
