So I ordered a Maggie Sottero Lace gown Marianne in white and have now read endless posts about how cheap white can look compared to ivory. I cannot exchange the color at the store any more. Have any of you brides had this happen to you? What have you done? 🙁 Advice needed! Worried I might have to sell it and that no bride will buy it. I purchased it for $2000.

I have never read anything about white being cheap compared to ivory. I have a white dress and think its awesome.

I think white vs ivory is a preference. Some brides feel that the gown MUST be white or they wont even consider it, while others think white washes them out.

I prefer Ivory and would never wear white, but thats because I am very fair. Not because white is cheap.

Depending on the dress you might have a hard time selling it regardless. Only 40% of dresses sell on preowned wedding dresses.com or something like that….and lots of time people will only pay a fraction of the price.

I think it all depends on your skin tone and what flatters you most. Have any pics of you trying your dress on for us to see? I’m sure you’re lovely.

I think white is stunning! I agree with NurseKaoru, a lot of it depends on your skin tone. I am sure it will be beautiful on you!
I highly suggest googling ivory dresses….you will see plenty of discussions about how dirty and dingy it can look. Everybody’s got an opinion 🙂 There is something negative out there about literally ever choice you can possibly make.
You chose white because you loved it! Remember that, and don’t go google crazy 🙂

I don’t think white looks cheap, it all depends on your skin. It will definitely look different if it’s up against something ivory, but it’s so much easier to find things that are stark white than your shade of ivory anyway, so it’ll work 🙂 and I’m sure it’ll be beautiful on you!

Futuremrs15love: Do you have photos of this dress is white? I ordered it in ivory over blush and having dress color regret also. I wish I ordered it in White or Ivory.

I have no advice, I just wanted to commiserate 🙁 I ordered a white dress after trying on the ivory. I was worried about having to coordinate ivory with groom’s attire, decor, etc, and white just seemed easiter. Now everything I read on the internet says ivory is better and more flattering on most skintones. I tried on a white dress (from a different designer however) and thought the colour was flattering on me. Hopefully my dress will be too, once it comes in! Either way, I don’t think it’s a huge deal. Even if it’s not the most flattering, probably the only person who will notice will be me.

Futuremrs15love: lauroo: There is nothing wrong with white dresses, and believe me, they aren’t cheap looking at all! (I went to a bridal trunk show and this white dress that was PERFECT was $XXXXX.oo, even after the 30% discount!) They look absolutely stunning, especially for outdoor ceremonies! And it also depends on the designer, any extra beading, neckline, and silhouette, and your skin tone!
