Fi and I really want to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon but neither of us have a drivers license. Is it absolutely necessary to have a car if going to Hawaii? Were thinking of Kauai, Maui, and Oahu.

To really experience those islands, I think you need a car. Unless there are tour groups and stuff to go on. The only one that may not need a car is Oahu if you stay at Wikiki. I cannot imagine what I would have done on Kauai or Maui without a car. That is not a place you just want to stay at a resort or single beach for sure.

@SUGARPLUMMET: I’ve been to both Maui and Oahu.
We always had a rental car on Maui. If you want to stay at the resort the whole time, then that’s fine. But you need a rental car if you want to go up to the volcano crater, or go to Lahaina or Hana.
When I went to Oahu we didn’t have a car (but we were also a group of 18 year olds) so mostly what we were doing was going to the beach and clubs.
We were in Waikiki which was WAY too crowded for my taste (as I’m used to Maui) and there were ZERO spots on the beach.
I LOVE Maui, but I think it would be hard to do without a car.
